New comics for 09/17/08 are looking for love in all the wrong places

This is gonna be a pretty good week. Action Comics as always, with a small dose of Captain Britian. Mix in some Guardian of the Galaxy with a dash of Punisher. Then slowly mix in a strong dose of Walking Dead extract. Finally top it off with a JSA Presents: Green Lantern (all Alan Scott, never mix Kyle Rayner) and huzah! You got yourself a tasty morsel for this week. Sounds deilcious.

Any week with two Superman titles is great.  

Any week where I'm buying both Hellblazer and Plain Janes is sublime.  

Any week with All-Star Superman coming out is a friggin' near holiday.

All I know is that I'm getting not one, but TWO DIFFERENT Superman books this week, proof positive that I have been switched out with an alternate universe version of myself.

Although I still love "X-Factor" and "Mighty Avengers", so I don't know... 

Very excited for some Action Comics, Guardians of the Galaxy, and, dare I say it, Ghost Rider... Also, it'll be my first "live" Walking Dead... Yay!

BQ: I haven't had many, so I can't speak to them, but... A few years ago I was at the same place I am now, but I was also like... Grunt work labor. Eugh.

Better week for me this time, much more varied too; Batgirl #3 Batman Outsiders #11, Echo #6, Spike #3, Robin #178, Checkmate #30 and Janes In Love.

Probably most looking forward to Robin or Echo. Also really interested for Janes In Love. Should be a good week.

BQ: Probably as a kitchen porter when I was 15. 8 hour shifts of scraping and washing plates, with your hands in vats of dirty water and leftover food. And smelling like steak for days.

BQ: I haven;t that many jobs so i'll guess i'll go with working @ a store. 

This seems to be a week of "why am I still buying this?" books.  Young X-Men, Marvel Apes, Cap Britain... but I'm excited for Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor (which I hope will start picking up again), and Gage's War Machine arc of the old Iron Man book.  And Secret Invasion: Thor, because I'm a Fraction fan and an intrigued almost-fan of Thor.

BQ: I've only had two jobs ever, and neither was/is particularly bad.  Oh, wait, no.  In high school I helped my parents clean the offices of the small company my uncle owned.  For little more than pocket change, I got to do thrilling things like emptying garbage cans and replacing toilet paper rolls.  Sometimes I even got to vacuum.

Worst job I ever had was doing data entry for a summer.  I had to type in a waybill number and two postal codes over and over and over again for 8 hours a day. 

On the bright side I learnt that Santa claus lived in Montreal since his postal code was H0H 0H0 and any postal code starting with an H is in my hometown.

A new issue of Glamourpuss makes this an awesome week, even without X-Factor and all the others I am reading now. 

BQ: I worked at Burger King for most of my teens. Blargh. 

I'm only getting two things myself:

Marvel Masterworks Fantastic Four HC Vol 11 (Regular Edition) and Star Wars Knights Of Old Republic #33

Worst job: Washing dishes in a pizza joint.

Walking Dead!!

BQ: Taco Bell in High School.  We used to have sour cream gun fights and throw "Torpedo Burritos" at each other; so it wasn't all bad.

Can't wait for the All-Star Superman finale.

And the last ish of Ultimates 3 should be good for a chuckle.

BUT THIS IS LIKE THE FOURTH NEW ISSUE OF ROBIN IN EIGHT WEEKS OR SO! And during that time we've had like one new issue of "Batman". Grr.

Looking forward to Billy Batson, Action Comics, Echo, and The Sword.

BQ: In College I worked at the on campus Night Club. I had to work on Saturday nights and they didn't serve any alcohol. It was always empty and boring. I remember them being the longest nights of my life.

Echo and Uncanny for me. I predict Conor picks All-Star Superman as PotW.

I'm looking at a small week, probably looking the most forward to Titans #5 - Benitez off interiors!

I'm most excited for Secret Invasion: Thor & Uncanny Xmen.   I can't decide if I'm going to pick up Echo or keep getting it in trade.

BQ: I've had a lot of ludicrous jobs, but for sheer tedium it's hard to beat the summer that I temped at Ikon Office Solutions and spent all day calling people and asking them to tell me the reading on their copiers.  I had to enter everything onto these cards by hand, and half the people swore at or hung up on me.  Good times.  

the best and worst job i had was working as a photolab tech one summer in downtown montreal. loved being able to see into people's lives, but my boss was a complete a-hole.

can't wait to get the LOCAL HC! 

It's a great crop of comics this week! Though...X-Factor and Young X-Men are on the chopping block. Much as it pains me to say it, I'm not loving these books right now and if they don't deliver this week, they're going away and probably getting replaced by Deadpool.

I'm most excited for Action Comics #869, Robin #178 and Captain Britain #5.  I'm sticking with Batman and the Outsiders until RIP is over, then it is officially dropped.  I'm unsure if I'm going to get DC Universe: Decisions #1.

And this month I am jumping on The Flash.  Let's hope it's good.

BQ- Stock clerk for a grocery store.  I could'nt stand customers always asking where something was.

Pretty big week. All-Star Superman - the only Supes book I've ever bought AND enjoyed - should be good. But the one I'm most looking forward to is :

The Hero Initiative Gene Colan Tribute.

BUY THIS BOOK! Net proceeds to to Gene, who almost went and died on us earlier this year. Now, he's feeling better but he needs the cash to continue his treatment.

Bonus Question: My last law firm. I hated working at the pizza place during my "lost years," but that was a fond memory when facing a 200 billable hour per month requirement, martinet co-workers, incompetent/hostile support staff, and hateful, uncooperative clients. Proof that money isn't everything when a job is concerned.

Really a great week - unfortunate All-Star Superman has to come to an end, but it was fun while it lasted. Looking forward most to Echo, Mighty Avengers, Walking Dead (always), Scalped, War Heroes, Johns' Action Comics.

I checked the Sentry mini, but it'll be a wait-and-see if it makes it home. I'm really hoping my shop gets the Gene Colan tribute book - can't wait to check it out.

The one I'm probably most intrigued by is Astounding Wolf-Man - after last issue's game changer (and this one truly, truly was - no hyperbole), I'm curious to see where Kirkman takes it.

BQ: Anything before I got my first "real" career-type job at 23. Dish washer, janitor, stock boy, convenience store clerk, junior groundskeeper. Man, when I put them like that, it really was all pretty shitty.

Janes in Love & Secret Invasion Thor, big time opposites, but that's the magic of comics. 

BQ: Unloading Overnight Mail for UPS, it was kind of a cool experience getting to climb into planes and unload them, being out on the tarmac while they landed and took off, and riding around in all the crazy carts with conveyer belts, and other weird gadgets that must only ever get used at airports. The hours we're terrible though, 2:30am-8am, I barely lasted 6 months at it.

Trinity, All Hail Megatron and Mighty Avengers - in that order.

BQ: Kirby vacuum cleaner salesman for a day. We pitched $1100 vacuums in the ghetto. One house invited us in because they wanted the free 2-liter bottles of soda that came with the cleaning demo, but they didn't have any power. No power, no soda!

Slooooowwww week...not much to look forward to, except helping out Gene Colan by buying the tribute book.

BQ: I was a stock boy at a Jenny Craig. I cut open boxes and put the food in freezers. The women that worked there ratted on me when I didn't do things. The only job I ever didn't give any notice when I quit.

I'm really looking forward to this week.  Incredible Herc, The Sword, Scalped, Action Comics and Hellblazer all top  my list.  Also, I'm really looking forward to the Local HC.

I may jump back onto Flash with Alan Burnett writing.  He wrote some really good animated episodes in the Timm-verse.  We'll see how I'm feeling on Wednesday.

BQ:  I did data entry as a temp.  BORING!

This is a colorful week for me.

Color me adventurous, I'm thinking of checking AIR out. Color me crazy, I'm picking up Marvel Apes #2. Color me nostalgic, I gotta read Tales of the TMNT #50. And color me mutie I'll be reading both Uncanny #502 and X-Factor #35. Also Robin, but i'm tired of the color thing already.

BQ: I've actually liked all my jobs. But I once worked 36 hours over Friday, Saturday, Sunday at my college's info desk. Sooooo boring! On Sunday I swiped the tv out of our commuter lounge and brought my Playstation to work.

Good week. Most looking forward to Thor SI, The Sword, Kolchak and Walking Dead.

 Worst job ever: Working as a cop for Amtrak in Penn Station. It sucked, copped a lofew places but this is the asshole of the world for that occupation.

BQ: Every job I've ever had

I'm hoping that All Star Superman and Walking Dead will make me a happy man.  When I was 18 I tried telemarketing and wanted to die after the first ten minutes.

Walking Dead, Scalped and Action comics!  I don't think a comics week could get any better for me.

I've picking up 12 books with 10 or 11 potential POWs!  This is a great week for comics.

All-Star, Action, Sword, War Heroes, and what the hell, Marvel Apes #2.  What?  I'm a completist.

Worst job? I worked in a big box hardware store.  I'm a comic/video game nerd.  I didn't belong there.  Money was great, though.

Cool! Nothing for two weeks straight. I'm buying a trade!

Looks like a good week! I'm most lookin' forward to Action Comics, Scalped, War Heroes & Robin, but it looks like there will also be a few other winners this week. *fingers crossed*

BQ -- Door to door salesman. I hated the fake smiling friendliness you have to do, even though I seemed to be good at it (maybe that says something about me?) but it was also my shortest job of all time -- I did it for one day. Maybe that says something about me too.

I am really looking forward to Action Comics. I just started reading the book with the current arc. Fantastic.

BQ: I worked a temp job at a Mrs. Bairds factory. I worked at the end of the line where the bread came off of the conveyor belt all wrapped up. I had to take the bread and put it on those plastic trays and stack them in racks. In order to keep up with the line, I had to grab four loaves at once; two in each hand with my fingers. By the end of the 12 hour shift, my hands were so cramped I could hardly move them. After that, I asked the temp agency to send me somewhere else.

I'm dropping x-factor this week but possibly picking up war machine, the flash and echo.

Is the flash still terrible? i droppd it about 6 issues into the ridiculour re-launch.

Is echo a book I an read in isues or does the trade read better?

im not sure about SI Thor, I'll see whn I get there and I may, if im feeling rich splash out on DC decisions or whatever its called although I think it will be terrible (the writers are great though so possible potential).

A very mixed week really but probably looking forward to Kal El's outings the most with both Action and All star.

We've gotten five issues of John Romita Jr. artwork this month.  That is insane and absolutely awesome.  I'm looking forward to Echo, too.  This issue of Uncanny is still Land art, isn't it?  I've been enjoying it, but I can't wait for Dodson's issues to start.

I'm looking forward to Tiny Titans. And Uncanny and X-Men first class. And Fabian's Robin! I'm very nervous about some of the other books I read. Decisions could either be awesome or awful.

BQ: Teaching high school. I'd rather be stuck doing retail again then go back to teaching. *shudder*

Looks like I wont be getting my books this week. My LCS had extensive damage due to Ike.

That's wierd there's no Dark Horse in the comics listing for this week, even though they have stuff coming out.
