New Comics for 10/08/08 have a sore throat and stuffy nose

Get to pulling this Wednesday's books, and then let us know what you're looking forward to most, what you're dropping, what others should be buying and anything you're thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!
What are the iFanboys buying? Check it out here - Conor, Ron, Josh and Gordon the Intern.
And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Dave, Jim, Paul, Mike and Sonia.
Last week was an odd week of releases. The highest ranking a Marvel book had on the iFanboy comics pages was 11th and even die hard Marvel Zombie Ron only picked up one Marvel book. This week, it's slightly better but really not that much more. And then next week I'm sure Marvel will flood the racks. I wish this stuff could be better spaced out.
As for the books themselves, I think that I am probably going to drop Avengers/Invaders despite my "finish out minis" policy and my "buy anything with the Invaders in it" policy. Two policies. That's how bored I am by that book.
The one new comic that I am really looking forward to? Green Arrow & Black Canary #13. Why? Well, let's just say that you might recognize three guys in the background of one of the scenes.
This week I have the Pick of the Week!
Bonus Question: What's you best cold-fighting remedy?
Comments
17 comics. Jeez. I'm really looking forward to I Kill Giants #4 and Magneto's origin story.
BQ: Sprite & orange juice. 2 parts OJ, 1 part Sprite. And no 7-Up is not the same.
Posted by YoSoyJu on 10/06/08 at 05:20 PMUnfortunately, I'll be dropping Detective and Secret Six this week due to budgetary constraints. I checked my finances this weekend and realized I need to make some cuts to my disposable income spending, which means that monthly comics are the first thing to go. On the plus side, I'm looking forward to the conclusion of the current arcs in Action Comics, Green Lantern, and Invincible Iron Man (too bad these will be my last issues of AC and IIM due to above-mentioned budgetary constraints).
BQ: Sleep. Lots and lots of sleep. Benadryl works great, as well.
Posted by Paradiddle on 10/06/08 at 05:22 PMI so wish Avengers/Invaders was living up to the awesomeness of its premise. That said, yay for Invincible Iron Man and X-Men: Manifest Destiny!
BQ: God, I don't know, and if anyone has tips I'll gladly take them. I've been coughing for two and a half weeks.
Posted by throughthebrush on 10/06/08 at 05:25 PMStill another light week for me, which is kinda disappointing after last week. BUT STILL I am very much looking forward to a couple of them, especially Walking Dead and I Kill Giants. WOO.
Posted by Cooper on 10/06/08 at 05:26 PMbq: Go to a health food store and get 'Cold and Flu Remedy' by this brand 'Quantum'. It tastes like a tree but it works really really well. Also, with regard to YoSoyJu's suggestion, I would substitute seltzer for sprite. I bet his is more delicious, but when you're pushing fluids, all that sugar adds up on your teeth.
Posted by John42 on 10/06/08 at 05:27 PMI really wanted to pick up Secret Six, heard great things, but a week after #1 came out I could not find it at any of the comic shops in my area. It completely sold out!! :-(
Posted by drakedangerz on 10/06/08 at 05:31 PMSomebody keeps putting Green Lantern & Iron Man books out in the same week, as though there are fans out there who are really into flyboys with daddy issues. Oh, wait. . . I'm really into flyboys with daddy issues. This is good. I'm also psyched for X-men: Manifest Destiny; the first installment was really (I hesitate to say, surprisingly) good. I feel obligated to stick with 'Final Crisis: Revelations,' for the sake of Greg Rucka writing Montoya, but it's been a real let-down and if this were a writer/character combination I loved any less, I'd be over it.
BQ: Stop going to comic conventions.
Posted by ohcaroline on 10/06/08 at 05:32 PMIt's all about Green Lantern this week, finally we get the end of the arc and a new issue of corps, YES!
BQ: OJ and sprite in large quantities, Nyquil is good too.
Posted by HerrStarr on 10/06/08 at 05:37 PMTwo excellent books that are lead-ins to The Blackest Night? Sign me up! Also, I seem to be one of the few that actually enjoys Revelations, so I'm lookin' forward to that too.
Bonus: Sleep, lots and lots of sleep. In lieu of that, chicken soup
Posted by deezer on 10/06/08 at 05:38 PMAnother trade-heavy week for me. But two of those trades are Hellboy Library Ed. vol. 2 and Queen & Country Definitive Ed. vol. 3, so no complaints here.
BQ: Various juices.
Posted by JFernandes on 10/06/08 at 05:50 PMAnother relatively lite week. I'm finally dropping Young Liars this week. It just doesn't do anything for me. I'm excited about BPRD: The Warning and The Walking Dead. Also, looking forward to: Batman Confidential (though I will miss Batgirl), Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, Dead of Night Devil Slayer (loved the last issue), and the Lone Ranger. Hey, what's with all this X-Men mini-series: X-Men Manifest Destiny and X-Men Original Sin? Also, picking up some older issues - Jonah Hex #2-9.
BQ: Warm whisky and honey.
Posted by iSteve on 10/06/08 at 06:07 PMPretty good week, 7 books; GL and GL Corps, Batman Confidential, Detective, FC Revelations, Two-Face Year One #2 and Young Liars #8 (although #7 only came out last week or something so I'm sceptical if this'll come out).
@Conor - Do those 3 cameos in Arrow/Canary run a website that starts with "iF" by any chance? If so I shall indeed be picking it up.
BQ: Sleep, lots of juice and cheesy snacks. Oh, and a stack of good DVDs and a duvet.
Posted by Eyun on 10/06/08 at 06:12 PMSpawn and End League(gonna giver a go......again)
Posted by jackwtweeg on 10/06/08 at 06:13 PMDeadpool #3 interested in seeing how it all ends.
I know you gus said in last podcast basically Deadpool wasn't worth it.. but i'd be interested on your guys take on the the issue story here.
Posted by MrPopular on 10/06/08 at 06:19 PMI didn't say a thing about Deadpool. I don't think any of us read it if I remember correctly. So what was said was that we didn't want to read it in general. If you want to, go ahead. Get those user reviews in, because I doubt we're gonna start talking about it that much.
Posted by josh on 10/06/08 at 06:24 PMIf I didn't go to the store this week, I wouldn't even care. Secret Invasion: Inhumans is the only thing even moving the needle. Final Crisis Revelations is dropped now that I've gotten around to reading #2. (What was that?)
And needless to say, next week I'm buying more things than I have in these last two weeks combined.
BQ: vitamin C is more of a placebo, but I still drop it like an h-bomb on my system every time.
Posted by Jimski on 10/06/08 at 06:25 PM@MrPopular & josh - I said I have zero interest in Deadpool and Ron said he has zero interest in Daniel Way.
Posted by conor on 10/06/08 at 06:29 PMWow! I'm really excited for this week. Two Face: Year One #2, The End League #5, Action Comics, Detective Comics, both GL books and The Twelve. Booyah!
And the next Hellboy Library Edition, Queen and Country Vol. 3, and the Serenity TPB. Add the Book of the Month to that, and Instocktrades is going to make this kid one happy ass camper. Can't wait.
BQ: Eat Dayquil like candy. It's a-mazing.
Posted by Neb on 10/06/08 at 07:00 PM@Neb Yes. DayQuil is awesome. The generic thing that looks the same does nothing.
Posted by YoSoyJu on 10/06/08 at 07:44 PMQueen & Country Definitive Edition #3
FINALLLLLLLLY!!!!
Posted by RipperSix on 10/06/08 at 08:13 PMGREEN Weeks are good: GREEN Lantern, GREEN Lantern Corps and GREEN Arrow.
Friendly of Norton to draw you guys in cameo, even if he ain't no Chiang?
Time to let the cat out of the bag: Trinity is good!!
BQ: Lotsa sleep and lovin from my lady.
Posted by FACE on 10/06/08 at 08:36 PMAll Marvel for me this week... the Twelve, Iron Man, Avengers Invaders, and Marvel Zombies.
BQ: I never get colds. My secret is eating right, regular exercise, and daily vitamins:)
Posted by s1lentslayer on 10/06/08 at 08:52 PMiFanboy, I've been reading comics for about a year now and much credit goes to you guys. I never said thanks for that, so thanks.
Conor - Drink lots of OJ. Daily vitamin. Sleep.
Green Lantern conclusion. Can't wait for Geoff Johns to start The Flash. Perfect arcs for new fans like myself.
Oh, and I just want to spread the love for Mouse Guard. I love me some Mouse Guard. :)
Posted by danj on 10/06/08 at 09:21 PMgreat birthday week. two Green Lantern books and Action Comics, I couldn't have asked for a better gift.
BQ:couple shots of jack daniels as soon as u get a cough, my old college suite mate put me on it. works like gangbusters...not the actual gangbuster mind you
Posted by CharlesDaCriticCzar on 10/06/08 at 10:00 PMIf you want a proven method for shortening your cold and making it less severe, take Cold-eeze lozenges. My wife fought this recommendation for years, and her colds now are about three days where they used to be almost two weeks. She can't believe all the time she could have saved if she had only listened to me long ago.
Posted by RipperSix on 10/06/08 at 10:18 PMTop 3
Det comics
Green lantern
Green lantern crops
BQ: water, soup, sleep and all that other stuff.
Posted by siratomofbones on 10/06/08 at 10:22 PMAnytime you get Johns (Action, GL), Kirkman (Walking Dead), Ennis (Crossed), Dini on Batman, two Stephen King books (although The Stand is the stronger of the two), and Rucka, it's a good week. No Bendis this week, though - bet this is the only week of the year he hasn't shipped a book!
Aside from the above, I'm really looking forward to the new Batman Confidential (I'm a Joker junkie - even when he's been written badly), End League (those preview pages look amazing), GA/BC - it is a very DC-heavy week. Also have to find Red Mass and Invincible from last week - checked a handful of shops and none of them had either.
I pulled Simon Dark, but it's on the chopping block. I won't go out of my to find it, and if I'm in the giving mood, I'll grab it. It's not bad, just not good.
BQ: Over-the-counter cold medicine, lots of sleep, lots of water, and cheesey movies. Taking a week off from work in advance doesn't hurt, either.
Posted by Dan on 10/06/08 at 10:29 PMOnly three comics this week. I'm just waiting for that week of like 15 books, after the last couple slow weeks, I know it's coming.
I'll probably pick up the new Serenity trade since that's all I have. I'll be ordering Hellboy Library Edition vol 2 at some point in the near future, too.
Posted by cormano on 10/06/08 at 11:37 PMFinally! A good mix of Marvel and DC this week. Was it weird that one week it was all Marvel and the next week it was basically all DC?
Anyways I got 6, count 'em 6 very good comics out this week. It's like an explosion in my mouth, and it tastes like Green Apple. Action Comics, Deadpool, Detective Comics, Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, and The Stand: Captain Trips for me. All very good comics and this is going to be a hard week to decide what will be POTW.
BQ: Take the cold like a man! You dont see Chuck Norris backing down to the cold!
Posted by TheNextChampion on 10/06/08 at 11:43 PMBOTH Green Lantern books in the same week? Shouldn't DC be spreading these out more? Oh well, who am I to look a gift GL in the mouth.
I'm tempted to pick up the new Queen & Country book, but I don't think I'll actually read any of that series until volume four is released so I can read it all without waiting. Anyone read the two Q&C novels? Where do they fit into the chronology? I'm a big Rucka fan, but (to my shame) have never read one of his novels. Speaking of Rucka, I'm glad to see Batwoman on the cover of FC: Revelations. Now if only they would let him write an ongoing for her...and the Question.
BQ: Sleep is best, but a friend recommended Emergen-C last time I was sick and it did seem to help. No miracle cure, but every little bit helps.
Posted by androidmoser on 10/07/08 at 01:12 AMWow, crazy light week for me. I've got Green Lantern, Secret Invasion: Inhumans, and Magneto: Testament. I had to have missed something.
Posted by Anson17 on 10/07/08 at 01:12 AMIs I Kill Giants the fastest-releasing indie book ever, or does it just seem that way?
I think that any kind of related titles should be staggered, if only so that hopefully you read everything in the right order. I'm not going to complain about sweet GL luvin however! Bring on the Blackest Night!
Posted by Crippler on 10/07/08 at 05:31 AM@Crippler: I was wondering that myself.
BQ: Crushed Garlic.
Um, second week in a row that I'll be getting mostly DC books and only one Marvel which is so unlike me. It must just be the timing, no doubt there'll be a gazillion Marvel books I'll want to get over the next few weeks.
BQ: Hot toddy with hot water, lemon, honey and whiskey. Also, spend as much time in the steam room at the gym as you can stand to, that'll clear out any sniffles.
Posted by Garrett on 10/07/08 at 08:18 AMBPRD and Action, among other things. Any week with a Geoff Johns book and a Dark Horse book is a win.
BQ: Leeches and blood-letting.
Posted by PaulMontgomery on 10/07/08 at 09:00 AMAww man, too many good comics this week. I guess it's a good problem to have, but I'm not made of money! I'll have to make some cut backs, because 17 is too much in one week for me, I like to keep it around 10 or less ...
Most lookin' forward to -- Action Comics, Green Lantern (both books) The Stand & Secret Six. I hope Crossed is good fun too, I'd love to check out Gears Of War (HUGE fan of the game) if the budget allows.
BQ -- Garlic tablets (oderless, unless you want the girls to run) OJ & comics.
Posted by WadeWilson on 10/07/08 at 09:31 AMHellboy Library HC and Queen and country Definitve edition this week is great.
And Walking Dead My head is going to explode!
B.Q.
Try some altoids to clear up the nose. The other stuff you just have to deal.
Posted by doddzilla on 10/07/08 at 10:03 AMNice size week for me. Looking forward to Action Comics and Walking Dead the most.
BQ: Sleep and liquids. I am trying to avoid cold medicine this time because i have alwasy heard it just prolongs the cold. Don't know if that is true or a myth so I thought I would test it out.
Posted by TimmyWood on 10/07/08 at 11:24 AMLooking forward most to Spider-man Loves Mary Jane Season 2 #3 & Green Lantern #35, which finally ends the Secret Origin.
BQ: for whatever reason, a big takeout carton of Fried Rice always makes me feel better when I have a Cold, as does a big bowl of Pho.
another DC week for me... looking forward to Action and Detective.
BQ: get some good sleep and drink as much apple juice as you possibly can. orange juice actually builds up phlegm.
Posted by WonderAli on 10/07/08 at 05:53 PMAction looks good, also it's a big week for trade backs, the new queen and country and daredevil
bq: i just stop drinking booze and focus on eating healthy for two day and am amazed by how much better i feel. three days later, i'm back on the sauce
Posted by edward on 10/07/08 at 08:53 PMAvengers Invaders #5 (OF 12)
Deadpool #3
Invincible Iron Man #6
Marvel Zombies 3 #1 (OF 4)
Secret Invasion Inhumans #3 (OF 4)
Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane Season 2 #3 (OF 5)
Twelve #8 (OF 12)
X-Men Manifest Destiny #2 (OF 5)
X-Men Original Sin #1
BQ: I go with Orange Juice, Chicken Soup, Spicy Food (clears the sinuses). and Theraflu (apple cinnamon flavor). Oh, and pseudoephedrine whenever the spicy food wears off. Generally speaking, I get sick on Day 1, am ruined by it on Day 2, and am getting over it on Day 3.
What if I only bought one book this week? Should I make it my POW?
I liked the book.

Liquids. Particularly OJ and some sort of hot tea with honey to coat and sooth your throat. Add on a shit ton of laying in front of the couch watching TV and sleeping and then you are good to go!
