New Comics For 07/02/08 Are Taking a One Week Break From Comic Movies!

52 Posted on Jun 30, 2008 in articles by Conor Kilpatrick |

Get to pulling this Wednesday's books, and then let us know what you're looking forward to most, what you're dropping, what others should be buying and anything you're thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!

What are the iFanboys buying? Check it out here - Conor, Ron, Josh and Gordon the Intern.

This week I'm most looking forward to Darwyn Cooke on Jonah Hex, the next part of Batman RIP and Buffy the Vampire Slayer #16.  I'm also looking froward to avoiding, like the plague, Secret Invasion: Frontline and Astonishing X-Men #25.

This week Ron has the Pick of the Week!

Bonus Question:
Is there anything good about Mondays?  I mean, seriously, is there?

Posted by Animalvader1 on 06/30/08 at 06:08 PM

I'm looking forward to the next issue of Echo.  I also am reading Jonah Hex "in the trade".  I love the fact that these are self contained issues, so I can get this issue and not wait untill the next couple of trades come out to read it.  Why can't a few more books follow this format.?  Gosh, I remember when a 3 issue arc was long!

BQ?  You don't have to wait untill 11:00 (like Sunday in FLA) to buy beer!!!

So much good in one small week...Walking Dead and Hellcat lead the pack for me.  Hoping Avengers/Invaders is better or I may have to put it aside.

BQ:  Mondays aren't half as bad as Tuesdays.  Monday you can go to work and can talk about the stuff you did during the weekend.  Tuesdays, you go to work and...do your job while still looking at the same stupid people you were yesterday.  Yay to Monday...boo to Tuesday.

Posted by Luthor on 06/30/08 at 06:25 PM

Just Astonishing X-Men and Tek Jansen this week.

BQ: Yep. Pull lists.

Posted by JFernandes on 06/30/08 at 06:26 PM

I'm greatly anticipating Warren Ellis's debut on Astonishing Xmen -- I don't love everything the guy comes up with but he never bores me.  Also, psyched for the Buffy/Fray crossover, and morbidly curious about (a) the latest incarnation of Squadron Supreme and (b) whether anything will actually happen this week in Cable.

BQ: Pull lists coming out on ifanboy, of course!

Posted by ohcaroline on 06/30/08 at 06:32 PM

only 4 books this week :(

I would like to start a new book and if anyone has a sugestion please tell me and it has to be at the beginning or start of an arc

Posted by chrs7637 on 06/30/08 at 06:36 PM

I'm pulling four books?

Four??

Sharp left turn from last week. Spidey, Buffy, and all the books Conor's excited to avoid. Yes, it's Front Line, but Brian Reed has never steered me wrong before. And Astonishing gets one issue.

Speaking of being generous with my time to books that don't deserve it, goodbye to Trinity. I just don't care. I've read 3 trades off my stack in the time it is taking me to finish issue #4, and I just can't do it.

BQ: I do so enjoy those updates to iFanboy.com.

Posted by Jimski on 06/30/08 at 06:39 PM

BQ: Football season is mere months away

Posted by AfroKen on 06/30/08 at 06:41 PM

One book...my wallet is relieved. It's the next part of the RIP storyline.

BQ: hmmm....I have no classes so that's cool.

Posted by Julian on 06/30/08 at 06:43 PM

Astonishing is continuing? With Ellis? Wow. I'll have to check that out.

I'm too far behind of Buffy to grab the new one. I'm grabbing the 8th Season over eBay and through trades now.

Posted by BrianBaer on 06/30/08 at 06:43 PM

Most excited (and sad) about the last issue of G.I. Joe. This WWIII arc has been amazing (if nothing else pick it up in trade). Also excited about Billy Batson, Batman RIP and Astonishing X-Men. Also picking up Tales of TMNT out of habit.

BQ: Pull list!!!

Posted by comicdork37 on 06/30/08 at 06:44 PM

Very, very small week. Thank the Lord...

Most excited for Buffy and Angel this week... The last issue of Angel fell flat a few weeks back... but Fray's back this week. So yay!!!

BQ: I dunno... I kinda like the "I have to suck it up" attitude of Mondays. I can get some energy but I also have sense of perserverence. Tuesdays are worse...

Posted by GungaDin on 06/30/08 at 06:55 PM

From an all time high of pulls last week, to an all time low this week. It would have been better to spread all these two weeks, but then I still have books from last week to read so I'm doing that myself a bit. I guess I'm looking forward to Walking Dead #50 to see where that goes

Posted by whirlwindx on 06/30/08 at 06:56 PM

Im actually looking foward to Frontline. I've got fatih in Brian Reed.  I'm done with Astonishing though.  Can't get into Bianchi's interiors, even though I like some of his cover work.

Posted by hidefjohn on 06/30/08 at 06:56 PM

Mondays? We get the shipping list for the week, thats good right?  Oh wait, thats how I know how poor I'm going to become on wednesday. Ok I don't like Mondays now.

Posted by hidefjohn on 06/30/08 at 07:00 PM

Dynamo 5 #14 - Cant wait to see who this Vigil is.

Savage Dragon #136 - Prism story ending, I hope with Larsen stepping down this book comes out more regularly.

Posted by jackwtweeg on 06/30/08 at 07:10 PM

I'm uber stoked for Fables, and interested to see whats going to happen in Astonishing. Other than that its a solid week, Nightwing, Spidey, Manhunter, Legion of Superheros, & Noble Causes. And perhaps the last ish of Trinity.

BQ: Best part about Mondays is I listen to Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me podcast while driving to work, which allows me to tolerate traffic.

Posted by Ntpmcrtp on 06/30/08 at 07:18 PM

One comic this week. Amazing Spider-man. I think I may leave it until next week to pick up though.

Mondays are the BEST as its the end of my working week. Me am live in Bizarro world. No I work Thursdays through to Mondays so Mondays are great.

Posted by g0ofgnewt on 06/30/08 at 07:21 PM

@jackwtweeg Larsen has said that he's probably going to be putting out two books a month now(Savage Dragon and his secret mystery project). Plus he's going to be contributing more to the various anthologies from Image.

Posted by Luthor on 06/30/08 at 07:24 PM

i'm picking up Astonishing, but can't read it until i finish the last trade...  should arrive in the mail any day...

looking forward to Batman...  i've read the start of Grant's run and the start of the RIP arc...  am still playing catch up with everything in between...

very excited about Echo and looking forward to Sword...  also considering the Superman Last Son hardcover...

Posted by insight on 06/30/08 at 07:25 PM

When you said Larsen was stepping down...I thought you meant from writing or drawing Savage Dragon.  I missed the story that he was stepping down at Image (as pubisher?).

It kinda sent a chill through my bones.  Larsen on SD is like the sunrise, taxes and a hangover.  If you wake up and they are not there, its time to start worrying!

I think I'm most looking forward to Astonishing; I've had the wallpaper on my desktop for weeks.  I've been excited to see Ellis on Astonishing since they announced it last year, because Black Summer #0 is the main reason I got back into comics.  Also, RIP, Spidey, Trinity (yes, I'm the guy who's enjoyed it), and the Sword trade.

BQ:  Two months ago I would have said wrestling, but that has sucked and I've stopped watching.  Now?  I guess mostly just the pull list.

Posted by YoSoyJu on 06/30/08 at 07:40 PM

Kinda lite week for me...nothing really just saying to me "wow". The Sword continues to be a good read...I'm still enjoying Final Crisis...

BQ: Mondays mean that Fridays are even closer!

Posted by target242 on 06/30/08 at 07:43 PM

Anyone else dying for walking dead?

BQ- i listen to all my podcasts on mondays.

Posted by kevsname72 on 06/30/08 at 08:03 PM

Walking Dead and Buffy. Melaca Fray is the (wo)Man!

Bonus: Wing night at Fatheads on the South Side of Pittsburgh.

Posted by RobAbsten on 06/30/08 at 08:08 PM

@YoSoyJu, Black Summer was one of the books that brought me back too...  be sure to check out No Hero by the same writer and artist...

Posted by insight on 06/30/08 at 08:09 PM

Only six books this week...

BQ-Of course the only good thing about Monday is taking it off and making a 3 day weekend.

Posted by mistersizzle on 06/30/08 at 08:22 PM

@ Luthor - Good to know, mystery project......hm.

Posted by jackwtweeg on 06/30/08 at 08:33 PM

BUFFY + Fray= Awesome!

So far Trinity hasn't really intrigued me. Busiek is just not doing it for me.

BQ:...pretty much the pull list. I love getting to know what comics I'm getting on Wednesday.

Posted by BenBugenig on 06/30/08 at 08:50 PM

Oddly, I'm pretty excited about Billy Batson & the Magic of Shazam. I detest CM3 as Shazam and Mike Kunkel's Hero Bear and the Kid was really fun. And seriously, folks, check out Manhunter.

Mondays are the furthest you'll ever be from Friday? It's all downhill from there. Is that good?

Posted by southbymidwest on 06/30/08 at 08:54 PM

I'm ready for Echo and Buffy. I'm dropping Trinity.

BQ: Monday's are busy at work so they go by fast. Other days, not so much.

Posted by s1lentslayer on 06/30/08 at 08:56 PM

Light week for me like everyone else, oh and good ridance trinity. What a waste of 12 bucks that misadventure was.

Posted by kaliber on 06/30/08 at 09:43 PM

Why isn't Vinyl Underground listed with the new comics for the week?

Posted by Hellhound on 06/30/08 at 09:45 PM

I'm most looking forward to Jonah Hex. I've been buying it in trade, but I think this will be the start of me buying it in issues. I'm also looking forward to Dynamo 5 and The Sword.

BQ: This is going to sound really kiss ass, but I getting my iFanboy podcasts on Mondays makes it a good day. Did Conor have a case of 'the Mondays" today?

Posted by ScottB on 06/30/08 at 09:51 PM

Top 3

Ego

Batman

John Hex

BQ: Pull list,s pull lists, pull list, pull lists, pull list and pull lists!!!!!!

Posted by superfriend82 on 06/30/08 at 09:56 PM

hey, you didn't mention <a href="http://www.vitodelsante.com/?p=26">SAVAGE TALES #8</a>

Posted by VitoDelsante on 06/30/08 at 09:59 PM

@ insight

I'll have to check that out.  I hadn't heard of it before.  Thanks.

Posted by YoSoyJu on 06/30/08 at 10:22 PM

Most lookin' forward to -

Batman #678 - Last issue of RIP was the best Batman issue in a LONG time. Hopefully this issue keeps on truckin'.

Nightwing #146 - A good Nightwing book is something I can't take for granted after so many mediocre years.

BQ - I play basketball on Mondays, so if my team wins -- it's good! And we won, so ... yay this Monday.

Posted by WadeWilson on 06/30/08 at 10:39 PM

Amazing Spider-Man #564

Angel After The Fall #10

Astounding Wolf-Man #7

Avengers Invaders #3 (OF 12)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer #16

House Of Mystery #3

Legion Of Super Heroes #43

Rann Thanagar Holy War #3 (OF 8)

Trinity #5

Might leaf through Astonishing X-Men but I don't expect I'll be buying it. I really don't see the point in continuing what was a vanity book for Whedon without Whedon. Especially with Warren Ellis who pretty clearly has no affection for the characters (or even the genre really).

BQ: I'm off on Mondays, so there is that.

Posted by MikeFarley on 07/01/08 at 12:33 AM

@jackwtweeg More info and some images. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=11374

Amazing Spider-Man #564.

The humdrum of mondays makes wednesday at the LCS all the more sweet.

Posted by ghostwriter on 07/01/08 at 04:35 AM

only 8 books for me this week. Most looking forward to BUffy the Vampire Slayer #16 and House of Mystery #3. I don't know why, but I ordered Patsy Walker: Hellcat. I always liked the character, so hopefully the book will be at least decent.

BQ: The Big Bang Theory is on!

Posted by JohnVFerrigno on 07/01/08 at 05:18 AM

After only 2 books last week I'm excited to see I have more books this week than I thought. Nightwing, Buffy, Batman, Echo, Angel, Noble Causes and I'm giving Joker's Asylum a shot.

Most excited about Nightwing, because it's up there with Green Lantern right now as just a damn good, consistent book.

BQ: Yes, there is something good about Mondays! I work weekends, so Monday is my day off and like Friday to me. And the pull list, too. :)

Posted by Eyun on 07/01/08 at 08:12 AM

Yay for a light week after a couple of walet busters. I am most looking forward to Astonishing X-Men this week. Very excited to see how it goes with the creative team change.

BQ: No, there is absolutely nothing good about Mondays.

Posted by xebix on 07/01/08 at 10:21 AM

I'm on vacation this week and next, so I'm basically hitting up local shops for the book that aren't being pulled by my LCS.  In that regard, I'm looking forward to Jonah Hex, Manhunter (hopefully I can find issue #31), Mike Kunkel's Shazam (I loved his Herobear and the Kid).  I don't know if I'll get any reviews up, but I'm excited to scope out other shops in the country.

BQ:  The only good thing about Monday is that...look, I could try and gloss it up for you, but let's be real:  Mondays suck ass.

Posted by Neb on 07/01/08 at 10:25 AM

I'm a big Ellis fanboy so Astonishing #25 is on the pull list, though I'm gonna have to flip through the pages to make a final decision on Bianchi's artwork. I'm not a fan of Mike Deodato, but there's no denying that The Thunderbolts was the best thing to come out of Civil War. I finished reading all of Walking Dead in a week and #50 doesn't dissapoint. I wanna see where Morrison takes Batman in #678.  Everything is up in the air for me. We'll see how much I spend on Wednesday.

Posted by hawaiianpunch on 07/01/08 at 10:34 AM

Also, for the bonus question: The Bangles - Manic Monday, Tegan & Sara - Monday, Monday, Monday, The Boomtown Rats - I Hate Mondays

Just a couple nice little ditties about Mondays that make it all OK.

Posted by hawaiianpunch on 07/01/08 at 10:36 AM

Small week...Cooke on Hex definitely the highlight. And no more Trinity for me.

Surprised not to see Storming Paradise on more lists, especially those of our Beloved Hosts that love war stories - Chuck Dixon + Butch Guice + alternate history WWII story = lotsa potential.

Posted by PV on 07/01/08 at 07:30 PM

Didn't see it on the this weeks pull list, but I went to the shop today and found that Proof #9 was released this week for anyone who's been pulling that book.

Posted by DavidB on 07/02/08 at 04:10 PM

@DavidB - PROOF #9 came out last week.

Posted by conor on 07/02/08 at 05:34 PM

The only good thing about Mondays is karaoke at the Liquid Kitty in L.A.

Also, it's when a lot of podcasts come out. And, last Fall, it was an excellent night for TV.

Anyway...

Angel #10

Astonishing X-Men #25

Astounding Wolf-Man #7

Avengers/Invaders #3

Bufy #16

Echo #4

Jonah Hex #33 (first issue I've ever bought!)

Secret Invasion Front Line #1

Posted by Diabhol on 07/03/08 at 12:31 AM

@Conor - And I even have it pulled too.  Brain fart.
