Tonight's episode - Briar Rose
Are we all excited for
α?
Tonight, Echo uses the tale of Sleeping Beauty to help a young girl with a troubled past. Meanwhile, pesky agent Ballard finally pulls the wool from his eyes. All the pieces are coming together during this, the prelude to Omega.

Looking forward to liveblogging these last two (televised) episodes with you.  Lots of spoilers out there, so let's be careful with the revelations.

BTW what are we gonna liveblog in the Summer when all these shows go on break? Eureka?

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:06 PM

Ballard's earning his paycheck this week.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:11 PM

Man all these people are crafty as hell. Topher with the engagement, Paul with dumping.

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:11 PM

Wonder if Paul would've let her jump.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:14 PM

Prince Valiant's a little on the nose.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:16 PM

Damn, they're running a lot of Sleeping Beauty references through the dialouge

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:16 PM

This is the really cool aspect of the show. Existing, shelved personalities rather than constructs. Kinda spooky.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:18 PM

@Heroville - Yeah, I like the metaphor, but it's pretty blatant.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:19 PM

Faith would know a thing or two about keeping blades on her

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:21 PM

Yeah, Alan Tudyk!

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:21 PM

Damn Alan Tudyk needs a lot more work for an actor of his caliber

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:22 PM

"Carbon snow angels"  Hahaha

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:22 PM

Earth Day is like Mother's Day, I don't have enough patience to spend any more time than that with either of them.

What kind of evil corporation locates their HQ to Tuscon?

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:50 PM

of the best thung is that the agent was getting his ass kicked

Posted by cyberauron on 05/01/09 at 09:50 PM

Cool. I was hoping that reveal wouldn't be the cliffhanger. Very nice.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:51 PM

Talk about range. Man, the guy's talented.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 09:55 PM

Tudyk is my number one choice for the Riddler if they use him in the next Batman movie

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:56 PM

Wha - WHAT!

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 09:59 PM

Interesting that they put the "Alpha's not in Tucson" dialogue reveal *after* the character reveal. I kind of want to flip those moments. Thoughts?

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 10:02 PM

I dunno, I think that it was supposed to be a reveal for the Dollhouse not a reveal for us our big reveal was Echo's connection to Alpha.

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 10:04 PM

Yeah, just wondering if you can't do both.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/01/09 at 10:06 PM

Its possible that they may have anticipated that Alpha's identity would've been revealed through other means and went ahead and placed bigger carrots for us in the episode.

Posted by Heroville on 05/01/09 at 10:08 PM

I'm very glad I didn't have that spoiled for me.

Posted by Jimski on 05/01/09 at 11:35 PM

Man, "Victor" does a great Reed Diamond impression.

I didn't realize there was just one more "real" episode.

Still not sure the story works for me but this was pretty entertaining (and I agree with Paul that the reveals should have been flipped; I was spoiled for Alpha via the god damned Internt, but the people I was watching with weren't, and it really did seem to come out of nowhere).

Posted by ohcaroline on 05/02/09 at 12:54 AM

I double down on Caroline's assertion about the stellar Reed Diamond impression.

The wonders of the DVR means after ten minutes into the show, I fast forwarded every time Echo and the little girl showed up. Made the show much more enjoyable.

Alan Tudyk!

Posted by conor on 05/02/09 at 02:57 AM

@conor - so you missed that Alpha had imprinted his personality on the little girl?  ;)

Who thinks Alpha is going to die by impalement?

Posted by Tad on 05/02/09 at 10:55 AM

The preview for the next episode includes a shot where it looks like agents are subduing Alpha in slow motion. It kind of makes me nervous. If there is a second season, I'd like to see him in it.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/02/09 at 11:04 AM

I assumed that subduing-Alpha moment was from a flashback.

It's a good thing he got his photo into that hippie's FBI file. That's planning.

Posted by Jimski on 05/02/09 at 11:29 AM

Yeah, that's probably right.

Posted by PaulMontgomery on 05/02/09 at 11:39 AM

Tudyk does a great Topher impression, he was acting pretty much exacltly like Topher. So maybe Alpha was imprinted with Topher's personality at some point?

CBS wins Friday; 'Dollhouse' slips

Not again! The penultimate episode of Dollhouse dropped the series to another new low -- 1.1 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and 3.1 million viewers. Lead-in Prison Break was steady with its bottom-rung 1.0 rating and 3.2 million viewers

*snip*

Dollhouse has dropped eight of its 11 weeks on the air. Here's a Dollhouse adult demo chart through last week:

Posted by conor on 05/02/09 at 05:06 PM

That's a pity. The show really hit its stride in the second half the season; this week's was great. Only one more episode to go and then a wait until the end of July for the dvd release and 13th episode. And after that...?

Posted by MacAoidh on 05/02/09 at 09:26 PM

Alan Tudyk FTW! I know this thing's getting the axe, but I loved this episode. Tudyk needs to be on some show, somewhere. This is the third episode I thought was a good example of what Dollhouse could offer if it went past 1st season.

Posted by VichusSmith on 05/03/09 at 08:30 PM

Alan Tudyk makes everything better.

Posted by conor on 05/03/09 at 09:08 PM

Its a shame this show is gonna die. Who puts a show on Fridays and doesn't expect it to fail? I guess I am as guilty for watching the show strictly on Hulu but I am just never home on Friday nites to watch this.

At least I have Fringe and Lost.

Posted by RocketRacoon on 05/04/09 at 11:07 AM

@Rocket  Watching the show on Hulu probably helps, unless you're a Nielsen family, because they can't tell when you're watching it but can tell when you're downloading.  I think the low expectations for Friday (what ELSE are they going to put there) and Hulu/DVR numbers + potential DVD sales *may* save the show but I'm not holding out a lot of hope.

Posted by ohcaroline on 05/04/09 at 04:09 PM

i don't usually comment on these threads (mostly cuz I can't liveblog from the West Coast), but I gotta say that this show has drastically improved from the beginning, and I've actually enjoyed the last few episodes, with last night being the most fun yet.

Tudyk was great, and anytime they get into the dollhouse backstory, the show gets that much more interesting. But the storytelling here was also better. Maybe it was a little cheesy, but I liked the whole Briar Rose parallel -- it's the most "Buffy" the show has felt since is inception.

And, I also like what they've done with the central concept in recent episodes. I had fun with the whole "solve my own murder from beyond the grave" mystery episode, and I liked the idea of Echo being imprinted with a projected healthy adult brain pattern of the little girl. Those bits and pieces are making the show more entertaining for me.

I thought the last few episodes have been really entertaining. I have to admit I didn't see the ending with Alpha coming until right before it happened. Very satisfying!

Although based on the preview for the next week, I'm beginning to think "evil" equals "southern accent" in Joss Whedon's mind:D
