200 Words with Paul Dini #52 - Hitting the Road

April 14, 2009

The bus pulled out of the Hollywood Greyhound station just before midnight, rumbled slowly up the Cahuenga Pass and eased out onto the freeway.  Following behind it, I imagined what types of people might be riding the dog this time of night -- tourists seeing California on the cheap, fallen starlets leaving town, ordinary folks escaping old lives, or starting new ones, or simply moving on.

With that in mind, I went home and set down this column, the last one I’ll be writing for iFanboy.  Ron and Conor offered me a year’s gig doing these short pieces, and this is number fifty-two.  I’ve had a great time and I hope the readers who dropped by each week found it a pleasant way to assassinate a minute or so.  I’m sorry I never got around to the Komodo dragon story, but someday if we share a bus ride together remind me and I’ll tell it to you.  It’s pretty good.

I guess that’s it. I’m still shy 200 Words, so I’ll fill the remaining space with ones I wanted to use but didn’t get around to until now:

Sitar

Truculent

Mashpee

Bombadil

Dingiso

Hungadunga

ShamWow

Anything else?  Nope, just…

Bye.

Aw...it's sad to see this end.  Definitely one of the highlights of the website.

Would it be too easy to say "you left out the main one"?

Man, today just keeps kicking me in the damn ribs!  Next Jimski's going to quit.

I will make it a point to ride the Greyhound bus all over this great country of ours until that one fateful ride where Paul Dini is sitting next to me.  Then, as tears roll down my cheeks and the twinkle in my eye returns, I'll whisper these eternal words...

 "So, about that Komodo Dragon..."

Thanks for the laughs Paul Dini!

"It sooo hard to say goodbye to yesterdaaaay..."

" It's blood sweat and tears when it come down to this shit
I'm tryin to get rich 'fore I leave up out this bitch"

Posted by chlop on 04/14/09 at 06:40 PM

" Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean:
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war!"

If you gotta go, go with a smile. I liked 200 Words, Mr. Dini, and I liked that X-Mas issue you did of Detective Comics that featured a McMurder in the drive-thru. You write the funniest Joker.

Nooooooooo!  This is the one column that I ALWAYS read the moment I see a new one up (not meaning to offend the other columnists - the fact that it's so short always helped).

Thanks for all 10,400 words.  I enjoyed every one.  Especially the one about your dogs.  And the one about Bitey, I think his name was...
