X-Men Manifest Destiny #1 (OF 4)

What is this? Does it tie-in with anything?

What does that mean? Is this important? Will it really "shake things up"?

Am still on the fence about wether or not I should buy this. I just don't want to spend more money on another X-men book that doesn't relate to the main story.

@ Crin  Totally agree.  I think this will be a "wait & see" book.  I just can't believe that with all of the X titles out there that they NEED to have these stories in a separate mini.  Sound like money grubbing to me.

I'm not sure that this *needs* to exist but there hasn't been a good Iceman story in a while, so I'm willing to give it a go.

I probably wouldn't buy this if I had a big week like last week, but it would only be my third book this week so... *pull*

I have a soft spot for Iceman-centric stories too.  I loved Zero Tolerance b/c of the Pachaeo art for Iceman.  I'm going for it.

If this were a one-shot I'd totally be game, but I think I'll make the final decision when i get to my LCS.

@zattaric Marvel and money grubbing? nah... (I forgot how to use the sarcasm key).  Anyway, with all these freakin $3.99 books that Marvel keeps pumping out, it makes me REALLY wonder if I NEED this.

 Then again, I agree about Iceman, I hope it's a doozy.  I'll prolly just thumb it at my LCS and decide.

I think this is like the DWS 2 parter with short stories tell what is happening to many of the outling chacters.

@Kimbo. I just went out and bought all of the back issues for Zero Tolerance and loved it. It was the first issue i ever read of a comic and i forgot how nice pacheco's art was back in the day. Great call.

I love Iceman, but I cannot figure out what this book is supposed to be.

If I dont read this will it effect the other x-men books? Im tring not to pay 4 bucks for a book with ads. Unless its bigger or something.

Yeah its just a spotlight book that shows some character moments and stuff that they don't have time to show in the main books. There will be 4 issues, each with a part of the iceman story and with a couple of shorter stories. This one has stories on Karma, Iceman and Boom-Boom/Meltdown

@rift1128- wasn't his style awesome in that series?  I had taken a long long lonnng time off from comics before that came out but read those issues with Iceman and Cecelia a friend had and been hooked back into comics ever since.   The coloring for Iceman during that storyline was great too.  I think my favorite issue of that storyline was the epilouge where they have to perform abdominal surgery on Cyclops with no equipment whatsoever.

@ ohcaroline  Yeah, I like a good Iceman story too.  Tough decision... well, it is a light week.

I'll buy this just cause it's a light week.  If this would've come out last week there would have been no way in hell.

That said, four bucks is still four bucks so i hope it's not a waste.

@Guardedmarman  I doubt this will affect anything else.  Most of the xmen books are pretty self-contained at this point.

this book really pisses me off i don't know what the hell is going on & i thought wolverine left mystic for dead only3 issues ago & here she is causeing more trouble!

This kinda sucked. The second story made me cringe.

@cman12 & ssurfew - that's sad to hear.  I like the new San Francisco arc and through this may be cool.  Looks like i'll spend my $3.99 on something else.

i mean its not really important story wise but if your an iceman fan and u want to know what happened to a certain x-traitor u should pick up the anthology simply for the Bobby Drake focus

I felt cheated with this one, and it looks like its only going to get worse with the X-titles this fall.  Marvel is giving us Manifect Destiny, Original Sin, and Worlds Apart.  Not to mention a bunch of random one-shots in a addition to the "core" titles.  Its way to much of a challenge to figure out what is essential these days in the X-universe.  Is anything essential anymore???

sigh..sometimes I feel like I'm in an abusive relationship with the X-books and no matter how bad they make me feel I keep coming back for more hoping it'll get better.  This book with its $3.99 reminded me of that point.

The first story of this book was okay...the rest were not. Unfortunately for me my OCD will kick in and I will buy the other 3 books just to have the complete mini. Maybe they will be better...I hope.

This book was a ripoff. The first story was bearable; the others were trifle.

First story started off positive because it was about Iceman. It was a bit disappointing in that it was basically a rerun of the last clash with a super-villain that Iceman had. The Karma story was kinda pointless and the art was frankly, crap. The Tabitha (refuse to use her terrible super-hero names) story was okay in a supposed-to-be-fun, light-hearted quick story, but it was the equivalent of the air head that she seems to be. I'll definitely be paging through issue #2 before buying it.

Marvel really should be required to submit proof to some governing body that a mini-series will 'shake up' or 'totally change' the X-men. This so far looks like it will have no repercussions after the mini is over.

This manifest destiny thing is supposed to be crossing over with most of the major x titles, and in an interview on marvel.com, brubaker and fraction said that the x titles wont have a set roster. Mutants will be coming and going as they need them to, so all in all it seemed to pertain to the big shift that the x titles have taken (although it should be interesting to see how they explain the tie in that cable has with issue 6.  That said, the Boom Boom story here was friggin awesome. Totally worth it just for that.  Any fans of Nextwave should pick this up.

as a post script to my last post, I don't think this series is supposed to affect the x-verse, but instead show how the move to SF has affected characters that we havent seen in the core titles yet.

also, @sscurfew, Mystique was left for dead three issues ago, yes, but when you factor in the delays and assume it all happens in real time, then that was five months ago.  It's not like anyone assumed she would actually die, so I'm sure she could have picked herself up, gotten back to the U.S., and inflitrated Bobby's life.
