Does anyone else think this book is about to tank?

Posted by SkinnyJ on 02/12/08 at 12:11 PM

It's never been one of my favorite books, but I read it nonetheless.

Now I think this book is going to soar now that Messiah Complex is over. The dynamic between Jamie and Layla is great and I hope this book starts to get more attention.

I'm worried about what 'brand new direction' means.

I'm also worried about this 'new direction'.

ok so my post was supposed to be 4 sentences and not one, this is the 3rd time that happened when posting, anyone else having that problem,

Posted by DocHess on 02/12/08 at 07:15 PM

I'm not sure I'm too interested in the direction it's going. I hope it ends quickly and we get into what I thought the theme of this book was. X-Factor the private eyes.

I hope this is good because I started about two issues before Messiah Complex because I'd heard such good things about it.  I've slowly bought some of the back issues as well, so I'd be a shame if I catch up only for it to go down hill.

then again, I really like most of Peter David's stuff, so I bet I'll be pleased

So, first issue following a massive crossover, my shop (Coliesum of Comics in Orlando, FL) has no issues on the shelves for 2 of the 3 X-books this week. All of their X-Factors were missing a staple, so they pulled them and are sending them back, and they also got shorted on Wolverine so badly that they have no issues on the shelf for walk-in customers.

well, I guess it wasn't AS bad as I thought it was going to be. it definetly peeked my interest.

Mine had staple problems too!  The middle page had slipped out of one of the staples....argh!   I thought this was a solid issue though.  It may not be the direction the series was headed before MC, but i think that its the same book as before but in a different situation.  All the characters still ring true and I'm definitely excited to keep picking it up

Ok good i am not the only one with the staple problem. I was a bit mad about that and I did not care about this story at all. I think this book is going to tank . It sad because I use to enjoy this book a lot.

I think it may have gotten steered off course by the various events in the Marvel U but am not worried about it. I actually picked up X-Factor 87 and read it for the first time since it came out because I forgot how good Peter David's writing can get in non-action issues. It'd be great to see him do something like that soon once the new team (?) is established.

I had two staples and still the middle three pages fell out, but aside from that Peter David's writing has kinda become just....eh.  I only kept picking this up cause of the crossover, but now I feel comfortable dropping this.

I'm gonna stick with it.  I enjoyed this issue and I only see it getting better once they get Layla back into the picture.

This was my first X-Factor issue besides the Messiah Complex parts, and I have to say I really enjoyed it.  I am intrigued with the inter-personal things going on with the group and am curious to learn more.  I'll keep reading for sure.

This is clearly a clean up book for David, though he'd never openly admit it. He's cleaning up the plot that Messiah Complex may have wrecked for him. He makes a couple of good steps to clearing all of this up. Over the next 6 months we'll see if he can refocus his book properly.
