How is this series, and if its good could I just start reading it with this issue??
Posted by Guardedmarman on 04/21/08 at 09:50 PM@Guardedmarman - I'd suggest going back to #495. To me, this post MC arc is by far Brubaker's best stuff so far in his run
Posted by cutty on 04/21/08 at 10:11 PMI agree, this may not be the deepest story line ever (hell, let's be honest, it's filler) but it certainly is one of the most fun story lines to come around for X-men in a while.
Posted by KingMob on 04/21/08 at 10:42 PMIt's a decent story, but it's coming at a time that makes no sense. Sometimes I wonder if the X-books have any rhyme or reason to them at all.
Posted by shogunt on 04/22/08 at 07:45 AM@shogunt - I agree 100%, but this is their only chance to breathe before whatever massive storyline is coming up in issue 500
Posted by cutty on 04/22/08 at 09:11 AMI agree that 495 would be a good jumping-on point for Uncanny, if you're just looking for a fun comic and/or to catch up with a lot of major X-characters. Personally, though, I don't find a lot of tension or dramatic suspense -- plus, if you're reading 'Astonishing X-men' and waiting for the end of that, it might be best to wait and pick up this Uncanny arc in trade, for a number of reasons.
For my money, Carey's X-men: Legacy has been a much stronger series, both on its own terms and for how it works with continuity. It's a more challenging read, and has more depth both in characterizations and the issues it explores. But I get the impression that's a minority opinion, and I don't dislike 'Uncanny' -- I just feel like it could, and should, be better.
Posted by ohcaroline on 04/22/08 at 09:59 AMlogic on how we got to this storyline aside, I've been enjoying this run a lot.
Posted by Kimbo on 04/22/08 at 01:33 PMI want to make sweet love to that cover.
Posted by xebix on 04/22/08 at 03:02 PM@Ohcaroline: if that is the minority opinion, then I guess I'm also part of the minority. For my money Legacy is the most rewarding read post-MC. That being said, uncanny has been a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Posted by DocHess on 04/22/08 at 06:12 PM@DocHess -- that said, if the sorceress causing hippie chaos in San Francisco turns out to be Wanda Maximoff, I take every negative comment back. And if it turns out to be Madelyne Pryor, Ed Brubaker can have my firstborn.
Posted by ohcaroline on 04/22/08 at 06:21 PMha ha ha. I really hope you are on to something...
Posted by DocHess on 04/23/08 at 05:28 AMMan, I've been pulling for a Goblin Queen comeback ever since they announced Messiah Complex. And they ought to do something with Wanda. But it's totally going to be a long-lost Summers sister. Or Mojo. Something like that.
Posted by ohcaroline on 04/23/08 at 08:45 AMI took a good 10 years off from comics, has she not made an appearance since inferno?
Posted by cutty on 04/23/08 at 09:36 AMMadelyne occasionally showed up in X-man or Cable as a 'psionic ghost.' And had an affair with Nate Grey who is, yes, the genetic child of her ex-husband and her clone. If you're making a chart. And she was married to Alex Summers in the Mutant X AU. But she's actually been main-universe-dead since Inferno, as far as I know.
Posted by ohcaroline on 04/23/08 at 10:11 AMThis story are has been good, could be way better as ohcaroline pointed out. I have to admit though I do look forward to reading it.
Posted by SlySally on 04/23/08 at 05:06 PMUncanny X-Men 497 was a fun read, nothing remarkable, though there were some cracking moments between Emma and Scott, and the cover was a smasher. The Russia plot with Wolverine, Colossus and Nightcrawler is dishwater dull, but I'm enjoying the Hippie Queen storyline
Posted by Mart on 04/24/08 at 08:11 PMThis wasnt a bad issue, but does any one recall a mini from the mid 90's called X-men Liberators where basically Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Colossus all go to Russia, and they a) get into a bar fight which is almost the same as the fight a issue or two ago and B) they also get captured by the Russian government.
Posted by English on 04/24/08 at 09:12 PMEverytime Pete goes to Russia he gets captured or attacked by the government. At this point I don't undertand why he keeps going. Atleast he's always smart enough to bring backup.
Posted by shogunt on 04/25/08 at 09:05 AMAnybody else think Choi's art was drastically improved this issue? He's really getting better with his facial expressions.
Posted by shogunt on 04/25/08 at 09:06 AMI just don't like this story. It's not bad, and the art is fine, it's just kind of boring and inconsequential.
Posted by AlexG on 04/25/08 at 06:34 PMEmma looks hot but the story seems kinda cheesy.
Posted by s1lentslayer on 04/27/08 at 07:41 PM

Some kind of plot movement in this book would be awesome.
That said, I kind of want to marry this cover.
