Ellis's "Ultimate Human" was fantastic!  I'm getting this in paperback as well, can't wait!

I kind of want to get this, i kind of don't. Anyone want to sell me on this?

Posted by PraxJarvin on 09/14/09 at 06:01 PM

Ultimate Universe 2.0 has been totally solid so far. Hopefully this continues the trend.

@PraxJarvin

Sell you on this? It's Warren Ellis writing Iron Man. Ultimate Iron Man, sure, but Iron Man nonetheless. If "Extremis" was any indication, Ellis was born to write Iron Man. Plus, as reg5000 pointed out, this is Ultimate Universe 2.0, which as thus far kicked ass on all levels.

I'm buying the issues, no doubt.

@praxJarvin- Foilgram cover!! What else do you need?!

I enjoyed U. Human so I will pick this up. Hopefully this won't focus too much on Ultimatum, I like how Bendis and Miller pretty much ignored it.

@Prax   Ultimate Human, the last Ellis penned book in the Ultimate-verse, was probably my favorite mini set in this universe. He gets these characters and he gets how this universe works.

This really sounds more like praise for Ellis than outright reasons to get this particular book. ;-) I like Ellis a lot, but he's been far more miss than hit lately, for me. I may hold off on this a week or two and wait to see what you (and the iFanboys) say.

Posted by PraxJarvin on 09/15/09 at 11:25 AM

I'm not too sure about more hit than miss...No Hero, Ignition City, Freak Angels.  Not really poor quality material.

@Prax, i'm just saying despite his work elsewhere, his work in the ultimate universe from FF to ultimate human ahs always been baller

Posted by RoiVampire on 09/15/09 at 02:48 PM

@Roi We'll have to disagree there. As I said, I'll be waiting on this.

I got the villians cover for 5 dollars, whats a buck right.

Warren Ellis on IRONMAN is a no brainer, I had to stay in budget and I got this over the Gotham Streets new arc and over Brave and the Bold with a new team.  I know I said budget and extra dollar no big deal in the same comment box, 3.99 for a book or 5 for a 1 in 10 and I feel the 1 in 10 is the better deal.

@ Prax did you read Ult Human?

Posted by Reform on 09/16/09 at 01:10 PM

Listening to Ellis talk about Iron Man on the DVD extra was awesome.  I will from now on buy any Iron Man book the man writes!

Tony is such a smarmy dick in this, it's great!

Posted by cromulent on 09/17/09 at 12:49 AM

@Reform No, I didn't. I stopped reading the Ultimate Universe around issue 100 of USM. I'd suffered through the Ult. Galatcus stuff and everything else. The reboot of USM has been good, I actually haven't gotten Ult. Avengers yet. Seeing as how this is only 4 issues, I've decided to trade wait and check in with you guys. I love Ellis and want to give him a shot, but I can't really say this is something that screams must read to me.

After all that bravado... I picked this up. I got to the store and it was in my pull bin, so I figured what the hey.

I thought this was pretty great, loved the characterization of Tony Stark here. There were a few bits of dialogue I thought were clunky, but other than that everything was tip top. 4/5.

Posted by kwisdumb on 09/17/09 at 04:28 PM

This issue was further proof that Ellis needs to be writing Iron Man in some form CONSTANTLY.

Posted by ProjectX2 on 09/17/09 at 11:15 PM

Pretty good, though nothing really amazing. 4/5. I have to say, the disparity between how Ultimatum is portrayed in USM and Ult. Avengers and this was quite annoying. From Tony's talk, you'd think the entire world was destroyed. Whereas in USM it's business as usual.

Posted by PraxJarvin on 09/18/09 at 12:54 AM

@PraxJarvin - business as usual in USM because in USM it's six months later.  Perhaps not totally realistic that NYC would be back to her old self so soon, but this is immediately after Ultimatum.

I loved this.  I'm tempted to right a full review (I'm looing at you wzKlye) because I feel like so much was done in one issue.  Most of all, Tony Stark is probably only second to Peter Parker at this point in terms of developed 'ultimate' characters.  Central to the Ultimate books and has had three minis before this.  Ultimate Tony is fully realized and becoming one of my favorite characters.

Another comic, another 5 rating. These last 2 weeks I've really had some great books on my list.

Posted by JMS74 on 09/20/09 at 12:14 AM

Why didn't Ellis write Ultimatium!?
