Isn't the issue with the Halo book Bungie? As far as I remember Bendis said the book was done, they were just clearing it through Bungie's lawers and what not.
Even so, you're right FACE, they shouldn't be so proud about that book. Wouldn't it be better to link their names to Daredevil?
Posted by Nate on 04/21/08 at 06:18 PMIf it's a legal issue it makes more sense. I don't do my homework enough to know. The Halo book, to me, was all but forgotten until Josh wrote that article about MIA books. In Maleev's defense the art's remarkable. If only the game looked that good the hype about it would be well deserved.
Posted by FACE on 04/21/08 at 07:12 PMAm I the only one who thinks that these classic covers done with skrulls is super lame?
Posted by Hoshigaki on 04/21/08 at 07:12 PMDamn, I haven't followed this book at all, but after reading si #1 and loving bendis+Maleev's daredevil.... I feel....compelled to pick this up.
Can I just pick this up and go with it having really only read SI #1?
Posted by PatK on 04/21/08 at 07:31 PM^Hoshigaki True, but I'm more annoyed that the cover has really nothing to do what's going on in the book. A homage to Steranko's Fury makes more sense to me than Avengers #4.
Posted by Tork on 04/21/08 at 07:46 PM@Patk - Probably.
Posted by conor on 04/21/08 at 08:01 PMis anybody else fucking tired of the "heroes as skrulls" covers? we get it.
Posted by kevsname72 on 04/21/08 at 09:38 PMHoshigaki, meet kevsname72. You two probably have a lot to talk about.
Posted by conor on 04/21/08 at 10:48 PM@kevsname - At least they aren't zombie skrull variants......
Posted by KingMob on 04/21/08 at 10:51 PMI postulate that the Skrull reveal is Dum Dum Dugan. It could be part of the whole Nick Fury being target number one, finds out about Skrulls, etc.
Posted by Neb on 04/21/08 at 11:37 PMBut Dum Dum was already revealed to be a Skrull.
Posted by conor on 04/22/08 at 02:34 AMI bet it's black bolt
:-)
Posted by doddzilla on 04/22/08 at 04:03 AMIt's probably going to be Dr. Strange revealed in this issue. He's been the flakiest acting without any real reason lately.
Posted by shogunt on 04/22/08 at 07:43 AMOh my God, the description for this issue brings unimaginable lolz.
"The Eisner-award-winning team of Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev (NEW AVENGERS ILLUMINATI, HALO: UPRISING) reunite..."
Bbwwhaha!
Posted by Labor on 04/22/08 at 10:44 AM@Conor~ Right, but I think we'll see how Nick Fury figured out he was a Skrull. I'm probably wrong, but I figured it would get the ball rolling. :)
Posted by Neb on 04/22/08 at 12:29 PMDid any of you guys read the online comic marvel put up showing how Dum Dum got replaced? He met with someone (don't remember who), that was suppose to be in contact with Fury (he was already MIA). That person then stabbed Dugan and then went on to blow up the SWORD control tower. From that it doesn't seem that Dugan has been replaced all that long.
Posted by SmokMnky on 04/22/08 at 01:17 PMthis comic had me at hello.
Posted by Kimbo on 04/22/08 at 01:38 PMthis comic had me at "Halo". ;-)
Posted by shogunt on 04/22/08 at 02:21 PM@Neb - From the SI 'Prelude' online mini-comic, Nick was already missing by the time Dum Dum got replaced. Something else had to have made him go underground.
Posted by DanLikesBeer on 04/22/08 at 02:47 PM@SmokMunky & DanLikes Beer - I bet that's who the reveal is about. Whomever that shadowy person is.
Posted by conor on 04/22/08 at 02:50 PMMaybe the Skrull is Lucia Von Bardas. That would make sense to me.
Posted by Tork on 04/22/08 at 04:05 PMAh, I missed the SI Prelude. What was that in? Or was it a completely seperate thing?
Posted by Neb on 04/22/08 at 07:02 PMOh, I can't wait to get my hands on this. SI #1 bit me hard and I've been foaming at the mouth ever since.
@Neb- check out the SI prologue at marvel.com. http://marvel.com/news/comicstories.2968.Secret_Invasion_Prologue_Now_Free_For_All
Posted by DocHess on 04/22/08 at 07:55 PMThis Scotsman cannot wait to get his grubby little hands on this book, I love Maleev's stuff.
If this is what the Bendis / Maleev spider woman books ends up being like I am going to be in my glory
Posted by capcool on 04/23/08 at 02:52 PMIts all about the silhouettes guys. Seriously.
Posted by rift1128 on 04/23/08 at 06:38 PMDug the book, nice to see nick Fury back in action--wasn't crazy about the Maleev art for some reason.
Posted by AlexG on 04/23/08 at 08:42 PMI was kind of hoping that Nick Fury's return would be much later on in the story, with him coming to the rescue during the bleakest moment of the conflict. But with that aside, I really still enjoyed this issue, and Mighty Avengers is slowly creeping its way up in to my top 5 favorite books being released if it isnt there already.
Posted by Unoob on 04/23/08 at 09:09 PMSo can we discuss the last page? I have a feeling this is sort of like Rip Hunters Chalkboard from way back in 52 and also a lil bit in Booster Gold. Certain people are circled in Blue and others in Red. So daredevil has already been revealed as a Skrull along with Namor, Blackbolt, Sue Richards, Dum Dum and etc. Now Daredevil and Blackbolt are circled in Blue but so are Spider-man, Stature and Lockjaw(WTF?). Then we have Dr Stranger, Sentry, Wolverine and Hulkling. then i notice the people we already knew were skrulls havent been circled at all. WTF is going on?! Or am i just over analyzing this?
Oh wait nevermind. Im dumb and just remembered this is a flashback issue so we dont know about sue and blackbolt yet.. But still!
Posted by Troy on 04/23/08 at 11:27 PM@Unoob I think we are going to see Nick Fury behind the scenes for alot of this event. I dont think he's going to completely come out of the darkness until he is sure he has all the Skrull agents figured out.
SIDE QUESTION: Who do you think is going to be the New Avengers skrull?
Posted by JoeNY on 04/24/08 at 08:33 AM@ Troy the people circled are people that Fury suspects are skrulls and he will be keeping tabs on.
@ JoeNY i think wolverine is the skrull, this way it explains why he is almost every book in the MU, and they can fix his out of control healing power.
Posted by English on 04/24/08 at 10:57 AMI think it's Starbuck. Oh wait...
Posted by ultimatehoratio on 04/24/08 at 11:03 AM@English if wolverine is a skrull then they are going to need to explain him going out of his way to impale skrull daredevil, and when they had the opportunity to replace him. But it wouldnt be the first time he was replaced by a Skrull Uncanny X-men #375.
Posted by JoeNY on 04/24/08 at 02:07 PMThere is something going on with all the issues too. If you read the New Avengers run with Yu and in the Secret Invasion too there are specific panels that have characters silhouetted out in black. If you go way back in the series the only characters to ever show up like that are Wolverine, Dr. Strange and Jarvis. And then in Secret Invasion 1 it was Wolverine, Dr. Strange and jarvis again but also it had Dum Dum, Hank Pym and both Sue and Johnny Storm.
I dunno maybe that is something to look into.
Posted by rift1128 on 04/24/08 at 02:15 PMOh and the Sentry is in the SI as a silhouette.
Posted by rift1128 on 04/24/08 at 02:16 PMMighty Avengers 12 wasn't a bad read, but it could as easily have been an issue of New Avengers.
Posted by Mart on 04/24/08 at 08:08 PM@JoeNY the skrulls are a war like race and are willing to make sacrifices so what better way for people to trust wolverine then for him to kill and expose a skrull undercover.
Posted by English on 04/24/08 at 09:08 PM@English true but i would think they would be better served if wolverine helped Skrull daredevil kill echo, then they would have three agents in place, and they could easily decieve the rest of the new avengers much easier, now that would have been an insane issue. The broken and dying body of echo on a nyc rooftop with skrull wolverine and daredevil standing over her smiling....
Posted by JoeNY on 04/25/08 at 08:27 AM@JoeNY very true then later on Echo could come back in one of the later SI issues and say that Fury Saved her.
Posted by English on 04/25/08 at 01:03 PMI enjoyed this far more than Justice League .. I loved the artwork.. I didn't think there was much wrong with Maleev's Nick Fury.
Posted by nuclearman on 04/30/08 at 07:14 PM

How can they take any pride in the Halo book? Isn't it only two issues in after more than six months?
