Criminal 2 #2
It's the second of three standalone stories, as CRIMINAL's new expanded format keeps the hits coming!
In previous arcs of Criminal we've met the man who killed him, and we met his only surviving son... now meet TEEG LAWLESS, thief, murderer, and all around bad mother-#@$%er. Fresh from two tours in Vietnam, Teeg arrives home in 1972 carrying the baggage of war, a drug habit, and an unpaid debt to a local mob boss that's now long overdue. "Before the Living End" tells how he goes about finding a way out of his problems and back into the life of crime.
And on top of this longer-than-usual length main story, CRIMINAL now features an *expanded* back-pages section, as well - with articles by Brubaker and other top crime writers, from novelists to screenwriters to comic writers. These noir articles have become a popular piece of the CRIMINAL package, and are something that can only be found in the comics, not in any collections.
So don't miss out on this second *standalone* issue of the most acclaimed crime comic on the stands!

here's a good article on Criminal. Its a bit dated but it addresses the new format and then some:

Posted by DocHess on 04/07/08 at 09:08 PMI think it is selling enough to continue for now without the creators losing their shirts, but obviously not well-enough that they didn't think it was a good idea to give it a new #1. Nowhere near Powers or KickAss numbers.
Posted by southbymidwest on 04/08/08 at 01:12 AMI'm excited for this issue. I have em' all and love em' all. Like, Scalped, I hope this book goes on forever.
Posted by Neb on 04/08/08 at 08:21 AMWait ... what? Stand-alone? I didn't know this. At the back of the book in issue one is says the issue was "the first of a triptyck of short stories, which are linked by the robbery that takes place off panel in this issue."
Can't wait to see Teeg!
Posted by WadeWilson on 04/08/08 at 11:03 AMThis book does what a lot of others would benefit from doing, I think. Namely, the exclusive monthly content that does not appear in the trades. Simply put, if you want to boost pamphlet sales, you've got to incentivise them in some way, and this sort of extra feature is a great way to do that.
Posted by Mithel on 04/08/08 at 11:16 AMI think it's part of the tryptych (such a cool word that I don't think I can spell), but they're presenting it as three stand alones that all have to do with the robbery that we heard about in the first one, and they all sort of come together in places near the end. 'Least, that's what I heard they were doing
Posted by deezer on 04/08/08 at 11:40 AMone of the bets books on the market. I cannot recommend this enough, and I'm not a fan of the crime genre either.
Posted by Kimbo on 04/09/08 at 03:55 PMThe issue was great, of course, and I especially loved Jason Aaron's essay about his favorites. Frank Pembleton is a longtime obsession of mine, and I didn't think anybody else remembered 'State of Grace.'
I'm going to have to start reading 'Scalped,' aren't I?
Posted by ohcaroline on 04/10/08 at 09:50 AM@ohcaroline~ You aren't reading it now?!? For shame! And I read your "The Order."
I just feel so...so used! :)
I kid, I kid! Seriously, buy "Scalped." Tomorrow.
Posted by Neb on 04/11/08 at 10:14 PM@ohcaroline - Yes! Read Scalped! You won't regret it.
Posted by WadeWilson on 04/13/08 at 08:11 AMI went and ordered 'Scalped' from InStockTrades a few days ago -- I don't know how long they usually take to ship, but hopefully will have it soon.

What happens after the three stand alone issues? Is it done? How does this book sell? Is there a correlation between iFanboy pulls and real sales? How much wood...?
