Captain Britain And Mi 13 #10

The king of the vampires is back. As if the hoards of demons that Pete Wisdom let out in order to defeat the Skrulls in England weren't enough, now DRACULA has entered the scene. What does he want with Spitfire? And how will an election help his cause? You better hope that Captain Britain and the rest of MI13 have a way to defeat him!

I kept hearing good things about this, so I went and picked up the whole run. Worth every penny!

Can't f'ing wait.

Posted by uberlush on 02/10/09 at 12:28 AM

i applauded paul cornell and his daring idea of putting dracula on the moon. cant wait

Posted by cyberauron on 02/10/09 at 12:47 AM

has dracula ever been on the moon before at marvel? I know there's been moon vampires in other media, but is it just cannon that Dracula has a moon castle in the marvel universe?

I'm trying this completely on the word of the iFanboys/Base.... so don't steer me wrong people!

someone said this at the marvel pannel. does captain brittain run the team or is it pete wisdom

Posted by cyberauron on 02/11/09 at 12:05 AM

Its Wisdom's team, but Cap is the figurehead that the public loves

Posted by drakedangerz on 02/11/09 at 12:32 AM

Wow ,  that  is a nice cover.

Posted by xiseerht on 02/11/09 at 02:27 AM

damn it!!  I'm not sure how, but I forgot to pick this up today at the shop.  Now I have to go back after work...

Posted by drakedangerz on 02/11/09 at 04:46 PM

This might've been the most fun issue of this series yet.  Cornell and Kirk just knocked the ball out of the park with this one!

Posted by Jim on 02/11/09 at 05:14 PM

@Jim agreed. there was just so many kinds of awesome on display here.

Posted by NealAppeal on 02/11/09 at 08:39 PM

good stuff indeed.  I love the idea of Pete Wisdom having such loud sex that Cap can hear it.  Priceless!!

Posted by drakedangerz on 02/11/09 at 09:06 PM

A brilliant prologue for the new arc. Really hard to fault it. I think it's great how Cornell actually feeds quite a bit of plot into such a lot of character dialogue - but always in a very natural and unobtrusive way. And Kirk's pencils spell out the subtext below those words perfectly. Pretty much top marks.

For fans of the book, you might also like to look at this interview with Paul Cornell, at Newsarama:

It gives us a little glimpse into guest characters coming up, and the possibility of one slightly cult Excalibur character too.

I love that Dracula is on the moon, mainly because that makes me think of Dr. McNinja and the story of Dracula living on the moon. If you don't read it, go check out Dr. McNinja, its funny stuff. Anyways, back to Cap. Britain and the cool cats at MI 13, I think that this had one of the best Secret Invasion tie-ins story and was one of the best things to come out of the Secret Invasion. Cornell is a great writer and Kirk has some awesome penciling. Woot to the Wisdom and his crew.

There was one panel where blade had a 3-foot shoulder. Aside from that, it was everything you'd want from a first issue.

Posted by kndoubleu on 02/13/09 at 09:32 AM

Haven't picked this up yet, but I've read all the other issues before it.  I loved how the series started out, but then it totally lost me the last few issues... This already looks better!

Posted by darkalley on 02/13/09 at 04:37 PM

I'm digging this quite a lot! One of the best new series Marvel has recently launched. Excellent dialogue throughout. Like the mix of personal drama and action mix it provides. Who knew Blade could be interesting?! And more drunken bar scenes!!!  The last arc threw me off a bit at the end but this looks very promising. Me likes the whole British-ness of it! Count me in! LOL! (that was old school!)

Can't believe this only has a 1.7% PotW ratio, right now.

Posted by theswordisdrawn on 02/14/09 at 04:26 PM

I was sure this was going to be my pick of the week, but then I read batman and walking dead.

Posted by NealAppeal on 02/14/09 at 09:19 PM

The page where Blade and Lady J are standing outside of her flat was amazing. I think Kirk has acheived the level of storytelling that Steve Epting has reached on Captain America. The "Dracula on the Moon" story is a bit cheesy, but we'll see where Cornell goes with it.

After I heard the description of this issue in the podcast, I had to pick it up... Doom and Drac on the moon, vampire moon  missles, what more could I ask?
