I'm so wary of buying anything with Loeb's name attached to it anymore. I love his earlier work with Sale but a lot of the stuff that he's done lately i feel has been really poor. I'm gonna give this a shot in a hopes that it has that Loeb/Sale magic. It's a mini so I might just stick with it as long as Sale's art is good(which i can't imagine why it wouldn't be).
Posted by TopGun on 07/08/08 at 12:22 AMIs this just a One shot or is it part of a mini-series?
Posted by DDevil1964 on 07/08/08 at 12:43 AM@DDevil1964 - It's a prelude to a mini-series.
Posted by conor on 07/08/08 at 01:02 AMLike many, I am so scared to pick up a Loeb book. Anything he's written in the last 2-3 years has just been awful. Hulk, shit; Ultimates 3, shit with art looking like shit....But this book, I hope, will be different. Every team-up with Sale has been perfect in my eyes. Challengers, Batman, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Daredevil have been great in this color series.
The only other problem is that there have been waaaay to many Cap stories since he died. Considering Loeb did a series for the Death of Cap; so he should know how to write the guy. The real first issue doesnt come out until later; but this will be the clincher on whether to go with this series or not.
Posted by TheNextChampion on 07/08/08 at 01:07 AMI put this on my pull list but im gonna flip through it a little at the shop before i decide (also iffy about Loeb).
Posted by cman12 on 07/08/08 at 04:15 AMI want Wolverine brown (or yellow) from Loeb and Sale, just an idea. Or maybe Ironman gold or Ghostrider black, I could go on...however from some interviews I listened to from Loeb it sounds like they might have one more idea for the color series after this one but he also said don't hold your breath.
Posted by comicdork37 on 07/08/08 at 10:26 AMIm real worried. Loeb has been nothing but miss lately. But him and Sal usually are out of this world when working together. This will be Loebs last chance with me. If its good Ill continue with this title only. If its bad Loeb will be "86d". Hoping for the best-I really want to like this project!!!!
Posted by Dietz82 on 07/08/08 at 10:52 AMWhat is it that Loeb has written lately that everyone hates so much (was it Wolverine cuz I didn't mind that)? I must be reading the wrong Loeb stuff cuz I haven't read anything from him that I haven't liked so far.
Posted by comicdork37 on 07/08/08 at 11:15 AMI just find the Loeb stories of late incomprehensible. I've spent a lot of money on his books in the last 2 years and have not enjoyed any of them. I'm finally done. However, if the ifanbase raves over this book, I'll probably give it a look.
Posted by AlexG on 07/08/08 at 12:32 PM@comicdork37- Read Hulk it's pretty bad. Read #4 or better yet don't,it had cheesy dialogue, and with so many splash pages I was done with it in less than a minute. I wanted to fly to NY and beat my $2.99 out of Joe Quesada for allowing it to be published.
Posted by Kory on 07/08/08 at 01:29 PMThis was'nt bad. Maybe it's because I'll read anything about Cap taking place during WWII
Posted by Kory on 07/10/08 at 02:50 PMwell i have always liked the book of loeb & sale together that i have read so after reading this i can't wait for the rest!, but i do have a question i know hulk grey is out there but did they already do dd yellow & spiderman blue ? and if so does anyone know if they are the same retro style to the art look for classics, such as cap, & hulk,
Posted by sscurfew on 07/10/08 at 05:00 PMYou can buy DD yellow and Spiderman blue at your favorite retailer.
Posted by s1lentslayer on 07/10/08 at 05:50 PM@ s1lentslayer thanks!
@sscurfew: The DD and Spiderman are also very retro looking just like Hulk and Cap. All of these stories could easily exist in the same universe. They are all good.
Posted by comicdork37 on 07/10/08 at 06:51 PMI'm torn ... this issue looks like a great return to form for Sale and Loeb, but I want so bad to wait for the trade and resist the urge to get it in issues.
Posted by UMFskibum on 07/11/08 at 07:30 AMDon't be put off by Loeb's Ultimates3, as soon as him and Sale collaborate it is 'class in a glass'. Sales art is absolutyly fantastic, I admit I'm on my 4th whisky but I'm sure I'm not pissed :)
Posted by Rooney on 07/11/08 at 05:18 PMThis book was a waste of money. Half a story for the full price. Liked the other color books and Supergirl 1-6 but Loeb has consistently missed the mark since then for me.

Does this cover remind anyone else of Darwin Cooke's work on DC New Frontier? I feel like ever since Tim Sale started doing work for Heroes his art became even more stylized (which isn't a bad thing, just different).
I have loved everything that Loeb and Sale have done together so I am looking forward to this one. I HIGHLY recommend reading Challengers of the Unknown Must Die (even the guys at my LCS who don't really like Loeb agree that it is a good read). Plus it marks the first collaboration between Loeb and Sale.
