Doom and Red Skull drawn by Hitch in one comic?  Sold!

Posted by MisterJ on 09/14/09 at 05:18 PM

This is going to be the make-or-break issue of this mini for me. I was let down with the first two, but there's still time for this to be a gem. The promise of Doom and Red Skull is cool, but I fear I can only be let down.

Posted by PraxJarvin on 09/14/09 at 05:54 PM

hell yeah

Posted by ABirdseysView on 09/14/09 at 06:17 PM

I'm not entirely sure why this isn't happening in the main Cap book. It seems odd to release a mini when they're putting the main book on hold until the end of this story.

Posted by reg5000 on 09/14/09 at 07:08 PM

@reg5000 Marketing is really the only answer. Cap #25 got news coverage and such, Cap Reborn didn't as much, but it's easy to say look for this NEW ISSUE rather than #53, whoops I mean #603, of this series. I agree it's silly, but there it is.

Posted by PraxJarvin on 09/14/09 at 07:17 PM

I'm very curious to see where this series goes.  If Steve follows his history all the way forward to the events in #25, it will be interesting to see if he let's nature take it's course as has been the trend thus far.  If that were the case, Bucky remains the new Cap, Steve jumps back to WWII and Marvel could keep going back and telling old Cap stories (not that a special plot device is really be needed for that).

I'm sure Brubaker has a plan.  I just hope it's a good one.

Posted by thehorseman on 09/14/09 at 08:35 PM

if history tells us one thing, it's that Brubaker always has a plan

Come on, fellas, the second issue was pretty good. Give it a chance

Sweet Cover as usual. "Dr Doom and the Red Skull together again!" Is anyone else as disturbed by this sentence as I am? Were they lovers? What a couple!

Posted by shenanigans on 09/15/09 at 12:04 AM

Issue 2 was good, just not $3.99 good. For me anyway. *shrugs* Oh well. Dropped.

Together again for the first time! We've only met in a dream!

i hope this picks up...

Posted by rayclark on 09/15/09 at 09:45 PM

should this comic be 3.99? I don't know.

Posted by Bryce31 on 09/16/09 at 10:40 AM

I might read this if it wasn't 3.99.

Posted by marshak75 on 09/16/09 at 12:49 PM

Ohhhhh shit, that final page...

Posted by ABirdseysView on 09/16/09 at 09:43 PM

I almost picked this up in the store after offically droping it.  I had it in my hands looked at the cover and realized I have just stopped caring about these characters all of a sudden and I don't know why.

How was Doom and Red Skull together again when Doom wasn't in the issue at all??? Great issue though, and give me more double page spreads of Namor! I'm also intrigued into what Steve told the Vision

Posted by shenanigans on 09/16/09 at 11:46 PM

Wow - the first two issues really had me down on this mini, but this issue really ratcheted up everything a whole notch.  Really dug it.

Posted by Grandturk on 09/17/09 at 12:04 AM

Best issue so far, looking forward to the next two.

Posted by cubman987 on 09/17/09 at 12:35 AM

Yeah, I was iffy on this series before, but now I'm in it to win it. (whatever that means)

Posted by crazychris on 09/17/09 at 12:41 AM

HELL YES! That was one helluva comic! Eric O'Grady you're my hero.

Posted by skeets on 09/17/09 at 02:37 AM

To those complaining about the price, every issue has been 27 pages.

Posted by skeets on 09/17/09 at 02:39 AM

The story in this was excellent.

I am really having a hard time figuring out what stuff is by Hitch and what's by Guic. Normally, I wouldn't be so concerned over it, but it means that either Hitch only drew that 1st image of Cap in the ice or he and Guice decided to just stop being talented immediately after that page. The art is the one thing holding this book back and it's been the case for every issue for me. This would've been a 5 star series in my mind on every issue were it not for the art being so muddled and disproportionate. Everyone has weird, tiny legs that can apparently reach knee to shoulder with ease!

Posted by captbastrd on 09/17/09 at 05:02 AM

It's both.  Apparently this is hard to accept for some people but Hitch is drawing all of the pages and Guice is inking them.  Ed Brubaker has confirmed as much.

Posted by ABirdseysView on 09/17/09 at 09:50 AM

For some reason, just having his first name be different on the listing up made me not realize that. I tend not to look at who the inker is, I admit.
It's also probably because they list Guice on the cover and whatnot. So, to me that just means that Hitch goes off the rails in about a page or two per issue. I gotta go back and read Ultimates to see if I feel the same about that (I read it early on, before developing a better sense of what I like in comics).

Posted by captbastrd on 09/17/09 at 06:20 PM

This art is clearly all penciled by Hitch with inks by Guice.

Posted by conor on 09/17/09 at 07:43 PM

Why is Namor a Vampire on that splash page!? Is he selling me chocolate cereal? This just isn't doing anything for me. I'm familiar with all the plot points and characters but it feels flaccid. There doesn't seem to be any heart in this, it's very perfunctory. If I wasn't a fan of Brubaker's run on the main title, I would drop this instantly. 3/5 for me.

@captbastard In general the inker is usually listed on the cover when there are three names.

Posted by PraxJarvin on 09/17/09 at 08:17 PM

By far the best issue of the series. The art was incredible adn the writing was on point. 5/5.

Posted by kwisdumb on 09/17/09 at 09:31 PM

Fantastic issue and the story has finally picked up. I'm really excited to see what is going to happen in the future of Captain America...

Posted by ProjectX2 on 09/17/09 at 09:52 PM

@PraxJarvin
I'm more used to seeing only two names for writer & penciller or the names the entire team. When I see three, it often indicates a secondary writer or pencilller. To me at least, the art varied from pretty good to... let's just call it "not" for the whole of this series thus far, so I was unsure if it was the work of two people or one person with sporadic bouts of the shaky hands (I'm gonna feel so bad if it turns out Hitch has a medical condition after just saying that).

Posted by captbastrd on 09/17/09 at 11:13 PM

This was a great issue. My favortie of the mini so far.

Posted by conor on 09/19/09 at 02:33 PM

excellent issue.  the art is to die for.  seeing a new wrinkle in the kree-skrull war worked and seeing Clint Barton in that awful old Goliath outfit was a real treat.  I can't wait for the conclusion to this story and want to see how it affects the Captain America ongoing story.

Posted by thevision on 09/19/09 at 02:57 PM

Best issue of the 3.  Namor and Falcon?  You had me at hello.

Posted by Urthona on 09/19/09 at 08:35 PM

This issue blew the other two out of th water. I'm excited to see how Doom gets involved.

Posted by RocketRacoon on 09/21/09 at 11:40 AM

I don't want Steve back yet. I want more Bucky Cap stories.
