I passed on this book when it first came out, but I have since went and gotten most of the back issues. When it comes to Avengers Books I rank this before Mighty,

I think this might be my favorite Marvel book right now that isn't an X-title.  Large cast of characters; importance to the whole Marvel Universe; dark comedy; and the sense that anyone can die at any time.  I love t.  More people should be reading this.

No doubt this books relevance to the Marvel U. makes it its future. It has yet to get the credit it deserves.

Hmmm. . .after passing on this book in issues, I bought the first trade, but I didn't get past the second issue or so before I lost interest.  I found the miltary metaphor kind of heavy-handed, and I didn't have much of a grasp on the characters.  Is there more of a payoff if I keep going, or if I didn't like the beginning, will I probably not like the rest of it?

There's definitely a payoff if you stick around. Since the vast majority of the characters in the beginning are brand new, it's understandable that one wouldn't know much about them, but we learn quite a bit more later on.  I think, though, that if you don't want to read about new heroes in training that you might not like rest of it.  I would suggest reading a couple more issues then deciding after that.  It might change your mind.

@shogunt -- I *love* the premise of the book.  I mean, my favorite Marvel book right now is 'The Order.'  I just found the setup for this one less interesting.  But I've got the trade, so I'll read it eventually, and see about the rest.

this series really surprised me, I have been enjoying it quite a bit.  And now knowing a certain character might have had a bumpy green chin this whole time makes me want to reread the first issues.

This is one of my favorites. Really like the art... not sure why it gets a bad rap and low pulls ea. month.

@Kimbo I think we already know who the skrull I think there is an issue when hes thinking to imself but im most likly wrong...

Posted by Guardedmarman on 04/16/08 at 06:00 PM

it should be intresting because there is a skrull in the book but i dont think he is part of the secret invation, unlike that one guy(in case someone hasnt read secret invasion).  i think this is a great book but i can understand why it doesnt get a lot of pulls.  before it started i didnt expect it to go anywhere.  but if you aren't reading this book i strongly recomend it...  i would like to know who is giving this song a bad rap? i hear nothing but good about it.

This will really be a lot better of a read now that the MVP/KIA issue has been resolved and we can move into Secret Invasion. I was pleased that Slapstick pulled thru, can't help but like him.

btw: did anyone else chuckle when Hardball said he would "use his balls" and komodo retorted with "your balls are too small"? i don't know that it was intentionally done for a laugh, but i just couldn't help it.
