Haunted Tank #1 (OF 5)
The Haunted Tank is back in action, but this time it's an M1 Abrams in modern-day Iraq! African American tank commander Jamal Stuart has his 21st century war ride in full battle rattle and is ready for anything - anything except the whistling-Dixie combat guru ghost who shows up uninvited!
Of course, this isn't the first time the spirit of Confederate Civil War General J.E.B. Stuart has helped guide a tank. In times of war he makes himself available to assist his descendants in battle. Jamal Stuart, meet your forefather! It's the newest chapter in the legacy of a long-time DC icon from writer Frank Marraffino (The Dark Goodbye) and artist Henry Flint (OMEGA MEN).

I just hope my shop has it. They used to have a lot of lesser known books in stock, but since the recession they don't seem to carry as many. I had to drop NORTHLANDERS because they would sell out before I got there because the store only orders a handful of issues.
Posted by Kory on 12/02/08 at 11:21 AM@Kory . Your LCS doesn't have a subscription service or something that you could do so you can guarantee a copy?
Posted by jobob247 on 12/02/08 at 01:17 PM@jobob247- Yes, they have a subscription service, but I don't like to put a lot of books on it because I like to drop books at my own leisure. To me, if I'm going to put a book on my pull list, it has to be books I will read regardless, like the Batman books.
Plus I didn't know this was coming out, so I didn't special order it.
Posted by Kory on 12/02/08 at 02:06 PMNow don't get me wrong, I am very excited about this. I love how Vertigo takes an old DC series and puts that Vertigo spin on it.... House of Mystery, Unknown Soldier, Haunted Tank, Shade, etc. You can mine DC's great 60-70s comics for great inspiration! I'm waiting for Ghosts, Witching Hour, Stalker, a new Kamandi, Atlas, The Green Team, Losers, etc.
The Big Question will be: what are they going to mine 20-30 years from now? No new material...as today's 'new material ' is all retro re-mined 60s and 70s!!!!!
Posted by target242 on 12/03/08 at 12:14 AMthis is like the worst idea for a sit-com
Posted by edward on 12/03/08 at 01:28 AM@target242--you just blew my mind....and I agree...
Posted by AlexG on 12/04/08 at 09:49 AMThis was pretty cool. It developed the two main characters will. The ghost of a confederate general comes to Iraq to help out a guy who he thinks he is an ancestor of because their last names are both Stuart. It turns out that the tank commander with the last name of Stuart is actually a black man so things get a little hairy considering this guy fought against the Yankees in the Civil war and was probably also a plantation owner. Nonetheless, he had already sworn to help the tank commander before he found out about their little differences, he gets them out of a couple jams with the sand people, and it looks like they might be able to work together after all as long as the confederate ghost understands the the sarge is the one who is in charge of the tank and his men... END of first issue. I'm going to buy the rest, fuck it. I love Vertigo. It's way better than the new Unknown Soldier series so far, although I have a feeling Unknown Soldier #3 is going to kick some serious ass after where the story left off last issue.
Will somebody please explain to me how to write reviews on this damn site. Not one other person is writing reviews for Vertigo Comics and I actually want to. WTF!?
Posted by robbydzwonar on 12/05/08 at 11:09 PMyou have to go to "your comics," and then click "write review" under the book.
Posted by TehDave on 12/06/08 at 10:35 PMI've always been a HUGE Haunted Tank fan and I hope this is as good.. I think I'll pick it up. I hope they just don't go out of their way to make it vertigoey for the sake of being vertigoey, just to try and make themselves seem hipper then the classic original book.

I hope this is as good as the new UNKNOWN SOLDIER series. Vertigo + War Comics = fantastic reading.
