Yeah, what with that $0.50 price tag and all.
Posted by JonSamuelson on 04/28/08 at 05:09 PMEven with Geoff Johns signing at my LCS this week I think that I may not get this! I don't have the budget for both Secret Invasion and Final Crisis and am seriously considering not reading the DC event this time around.
Posted by torippu on 04/28/08 at 05:31 PMBut it's only 50 cents...
Posted by conor on 04/28/08 at 05:38 PMYep - can't beat that price.
Posted by torippu on 04/28/08 at 05:43 PMI'm a die hard marvel fan but for .50 cents i dont know if i can not pick this up.
Posted by English on 04/28/08 at 06:04 PMEvery bone in my body is looking forward to this.
Posted by JMF on 04/28/08 at 06:21 PMI'm going to buy 6 of these
Posted by wolf on 04/28/08 at 06:33 PMCan't wait to see this book. Since I couldn't go to NYCC I've been listening to the podcasts of the panels. Very entertaining. I fall hard for these big events...every time.
Posted by Dez on 04/28/08 at 06:42 PMYa this book is gonna be amazing. Two amazing writers and some of my favorite artists and 50 cents? You cant go wrong!
Posted by rift1128 on 04/28/08 at 07:33 PMMorrison And Johns for 50 cents how can you lose, I don't know if i'm in for Final Crisis yet but I will be getting this.
Posted by DDevil1964 on 04/28/08 at 08:47 PMIt's just good marketing... I don't really read any DC books right now, but this is a great, cheap way to see what's going on in DC
Posted by mattk on 04/28/08 at 08:59 PMi know that you guys love Jim Hanley's in Midtown....but, Midtown Comics in NYC is offering DC Universe #0 for FREE while supplies last....
Posted by batman on 04/28/08 at 09:04 PMI bet a lot of stores will do that.
Posted by conor on 04/28/08 at 09:38 PMYay, the sequel to Zero Hour! oh hang on.....
Posted by aleks on 04/28/08 at 10:21 PMI am really, excited about seeing where this is going to go. It is my most anticipated of tomorrow.
Posted by Truthseeker on 04/28/08 at 10:32 PMThat's it, if Countdown doesn't get better this week I'm dropping it...oh dammit...
Posted by AlexG on 04/29/08 at 08:55 AMIf I didn't read countdown, will this make any sense at all to me?
Posted by xebix on 04/29/08 at 10:08 AMFifty cents? Hell, even I might buy it.
Posted by Diabhol on 04/29/08 at 11:18 AM
@xebix: From what I've gathered it will, for the most part. This was supposed to be a Countdown issue originally but it's now a catch-up for people who didn't read it and those who know little about the DCU. Editorial's take on Countdown wisely changed from "essential reading on your path to Final Crisis!" to "whoa we really dropped the ball, so you can not read Countdown at all and it'll be okay if you start here."
Posted by kthx on 04/29/08 at 01:47 PM@xebix - It's written with new readers in mind. You don't have to know anything about COUNTDOWN.
Posted by conor on 04/29/08 at 01:54 PMDoes anyone remember the $0.09 issue of Fantastic Four? I felt silly for only buying one issue.
Posted by Simmons on 04/29/08 at 04:49 PM@Connor i'm starting to jump into the DCU (so far GA/BC, and GL up to 1st Sinestro Trade) i'm going to be picking up Infinite Crisis TPB, will that and this issue be enough for me to enjoy and understand Final Crisis?
Posted by JoeNY on 04/29/08 at 06:23 PMI might actually buy a bunch of copies to give away to kids in my classes. "Hook 'em when they're young..."
Posted by BigE on 04/29/08 at 10:03 PMI'm a little nervous to pick this one up. I haven't bought any DC since I got back into comics and I'm concerned that this marketing ploy will work all to well on me. but its only fifty cents! damnit. this is the DC equivalent of handing out free crack in the schoolyard.
Posted by DocHess on 04/29/08 at 11:00 PM@JoeNY - I believe that's the point of this, yes.
Posted by conor on 04/30/08 at 02:51 AMKinda hard to pass this up at a price like that. Still, I'll probably pass on Final Crisis. I simply can't afford to let myself get sucked into the DC Universe again. Too expensive!
Posted by shogunt on 04/30/08 at 08:08 AMI just picked it up and it was much better than I had expected
Posted by Ender35k on 04/30/08 at 01:22 PM50 cents for a comic book? I cannot spend that much money on anything. actually it was great for the price but I was left screaming in hand gesture mentionings. po bo yaa yaa
Posted by thewalkingpaul on 04/30/08 at 05:32 PMWell the book defiantly did its job getting me interested in the DCU. I've spent the day figuring out the order of just the past few events to try and acclimate myself to the DCU continuity. Someone tell me if i have this right... first came
Countdown to Infinite Crisis

Countdown to Final Crisis
Posted by JoeNY on 04/30/08 at 05:38 PM@JoeNY - you are correct, sir! Identity Crisis was a sort-of prelude to Infinite Crisis and is also a good read. Try not to be too intimidated by DCU continuity. I have only been reading superhero floppies for two years and don't have near the expertise as someone like Conor or Tom Katers (of Around Comics and Tom vs. the JLA fame), but am still able to fully enjoy the stories. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with anything written by Geoff Johns. The dude is a master at writing stories that appeal to new readers as well as longtime DCU fans. Also, there's always Wikipedia.
Posted by Paradiddle on 04/30/08 at 07:00 PMEven though I had no plans of picking this up, it was hard to turn down as Geoff Johns was at my LCS for an in-store signing today. Danged if he isn't one of the nicest guys in comics!
Posted by torippu on 04/30/08 at 07:09 PM@paradibble coming from marvel it feels a little intimidating, the DCU does seem very convoluted but i guess someone from the other side of the aisle would say the same thing about the Marvel U if they never read any of its titles. Wikipedia has helped a lot and amazon is great for picking up cheap trades. Its actually kinda fun learning about a new continuity, kinda like being a kid again. I don't know how many of the those FC titles i will pick up, maybe the GL Darkest night and the main FC title, maybe the batman title. Are they all coming out at once?? If they are i dont know if i will be able to get them all, seeing as how Secret Invasion is going to be so massive. My wallet is already complaining
Posted by JoeNY on 04/30/08 at 07:36 PMFLYERS SCORE!!! sorry, I was distracted. I wasn't planning on picking up Batman RIP, but that was quality teaser if there ever was one.
Posted by DocHess on 04/30/08 at 08:21 PMi thought i was pretty good on the DCU but I'm kinda more confused now then I was before.
Who was the narrator for this? was that a flash or cap marvel sybol they gave the dialog boxes at the end?
Posted by wolf on 05/01/08 at 09:18 AMis Barry back? i dont like that
Posted by wolf on 05/01/08 at 09:21 AMI thought it was Captain Marvel, but apparently it was Barry Allen.
Posted by RaceMcCloud on 05/01/08 at 12:41 PMI thought it was Black Adam, given the "now I Remember" line and the last time I saw him in 52 he had his magic word changed. I suppose that doesn't really make sense, since he never knew the new magic word, so couldn't be remembering it. I think the only real hint that the lightning bolt stands for Barry and not a Marvel was the "I am everything" line, which would be a pretty accurate description for achieving infinite speed. Peter David used that idea in his ST:TNG novel Vendetta.
Personally, I didn't really find this issue piqued my interest at all in Final Crisis. I would much rather than I could have bought at least the first trade or two of Countdown, even though I hear it blew. For comparison, the Secret Infiltration trade that Marvel put out got me right on board for Secret Invasion.
Posted by Harper on 05/01/08 at 12:50 PMi liked the issue. Kinda was disappointed with the Three legions artwork and the story and work on Wonder Woman. But Batman rocked and being the huge Green Lantern Fan that I am those books looked awesome.
Posted by rift1128 on 05/01/08 at 02:06 PMI was skeptical but I'm on board. Countdown was less than satisfying, so anything has to be better. Hell, it looks like I may even pick up Wonder Woman again! Red Volcano? Prof Ivo and Dr. Poison. Cool, Gail!
Posted by saturnmda on 05/01/08 at 09:10 PMI read it but I'm confused. Is there going to be a comic actually called Final Crisis or is it just all those individual ones?
Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/01/08 at 10:30 PM@s1lentslayer - There is a mini-series event called FINAL CRISIS, yes. It's kind of a big deal... you really haven't heard about it?
Posted by conor on 05/02/08 at 03:08 AMMy comic store won't get this until monday. That's a gut punch!
Posted by g0ofgnewt on 05/02/08 at 07:11 AMI bought it, but didn't really dig it all that much. Certainly didn't make me want to buy Final Crisis. Looks like all my dough is going to Secret Invasion.
Posted by shogunt on 05/02/08 at 08:15 AMGreat price and what a great cover. Some of the previews peaked my interest, especially the Batman. Honestly I'm not that excited about this Final Crisis. I'm still adjusting to life after the last crisis. How many do we need? The FINAL crisis title smacks of an empty promise.
Posted by droracle on 05/02/08 at 12:06 PM@conor - I know it's an event, but is there going to be a comic actually called "Final Crisis" like how Marvel has a comic called "Secret Invasion" for its event?
Posted by s1lentslayer on 05/02/08 at 02:25 PMYes there will be a comic mini-series called Final Crisis, as well as several other mini-series which were outlined in the book. Such as......FC:Legion of Three World (Superman), BATMAN RIP, Wonder Women, GL: Blackest Night, Final Crisis: Revelations. I am just getting into the DCU and in order to brush up on info and to understand what is going on in this up and coming event I recommend. Infinite Crisis, 52, Countdown, you can go farther back to Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Identity Crisis (all TPB available on amazon, except Countdown in early june).... I did and have found it helpful with getting to understand DCU continuity. Im an independent/marvel guy and am becoming more interested in DC as I expand my pallet, i hope that was helpful.
Posted by JoeNY on 05/02/08 at 04:59 PMZzzzzzz
Posted by DenverDave on 05/02/08 at 06:07 PMI think it's interesting that no so far has mentioned the makeup of the Justice League of a "new heroic age." (Page 2) Is this the post-Final Crisis league we're previewing?
Aquaman! (No Hook); Elongated Man (Isn't he supposed to be dead?) Hawkman (Guess he was tired of being dissed in JSA); Zatanna (All Batman's issues with her are resolved?); and the Atom (Ray or Ryan?)
Bringing the back together this lineup for the League (or League*s*) would be something I'd really be excitied to read. MAN.. I hope there a legs to this!!
Posted by GeminiTwin on 05/03/08 at 03:47 PMi thought this was a good issue. only problem was that i didnt know how barry allen got back. i mean it showed previews of the miniseries' for the serues that are going to be promoted for DC.
i just dont understand how the Flash came back
Posted by rayclark on 05/03/08 at 11:20 PM@GeminiTwin - I think that was the old JLA they were showing us.
@rayclark - I'm pretty sure that will be the point of the upcoming story.
Posted by conor on 05/04/08 at 04:30 AMI'm now officially more interested in current goings on in DC than in Marvel.
When did that happen?
Posted by ohcaroline on 05/04/08 at 05:37 PMI know people say that both companies have complicated history making jumping on hard but this teaser made no sense to me not knowing half the people involved. I'm gracefully bowing out of Final Crisis or any other Crisis for that matter.
Posted by Kimbo on 05/05/08 at 12:43 PMI had no idea what this was about ...
Posted by nuclearman on 05/21/08 at 06:56 PMI just reread this this weekend, it sure was revelatory, you see Genocide being created, you see a lot of the prelude to Blackest Night, it was actually pretty cool.
Posted by PhantomPhrenemy on 05/07/09 at 05:33 PM

If this isn't the #1 most pulled book, I'll be surprised.
