Haven't been too happy with Winnick on this run.  Kind of feeling the opposite of you fella's.

Haven't really been enjoying this so much. it feels really pointless, to me. I wish we could just merge Streets of Gotham into this book. I was debating pickiing this up... but I'm dropping it as of now!

Posted by PraxJarvin on 10/12/09 at 08:33 PM

that, sir, is a truely stupid costume

Posted by edward on 10/12/09 at 09:27 PM

im gonna second Prax. I was all in that first issue Winnick wrote right after BFTC, but this "arc" hasnt gotten my interest at all. I dropped it two issues ago until Daniels is on.

Posted by Fvckstick on 10/12/09 at 10:16 PM

I think I'm gonna stop with this issue. Wasn't a big fan of Daniels writing on Battle for the Cowl.

Posted by WinTheWonderboy on 10/12/09 at 11:55 PM

I'm going to flip through this at the shop and pick it up if it looks interesting.

Posted by stuclach on 10/13/09 at 09:07 AM

I may drop this after this issue as well.  I haven't made up my mind.

Posted by JesTr on 10/13/09 at 10:31 AM

Ditto, drop.

Posted by Xomneon on 10/13/09 at 10:40 AM

I'm gone after this issue.. taking a bit of a break on this title.  Might as well finish the arc though.

Winnick is good, Bagley fucking blows. I'm excited for Daniel to be handling art duty again after this arc, but he can't write to save himself.

And I agree that the Two-Face Batman costume looks obscenely terrible, but previews show it's just a hallucination, which makes me like it a lot more.

Posted by glunders on 10/13/09 at 03:24 PM

And when I say Winnick is good, I meant just on his Batman work thus far. Certainly has not always been stellar in the past. ;)

Posted by glunders on 10/13/09 at 03:25 PM

@glunders: I prefered the Ed Benes issues to Bagleys but I didn't mind his work.

Posted by JesTr on 10/13/09 at 04:39 PM

I'm just not a fan of Bagley in general. Specifically in regards to Batman, I think his style is too... zany and friendly, if that makes any sense. (He makes a little more sense to me on something like Ultimate Spider-Man, I guess. Even then I don't exactly adore his work, but the tone strikes me as more appropriate.)

Posted by glunders on 10/14/09 at 05:32 AM

Or like, on Trinity his style made sense, because it was a big fun adventure story. Batman's been too intense and gritty for him.

Posted by glunders on 10/14/09 at 05:33 AM

Well, all I can say is that i'm glad Winnick's done, not that impressed. Glad Mr Daniels is coming on board. At least the art will be awesome, who knows maybe the story too, I didn't think Battle for the Cowl was bad.

This was a fairly average issue for me.  It didn't really grab me till the last couple of pages though.

Posted by Spoons on 10/14/09 at 06:45 PM

I really liked this issue, particularly the second half.  It's been awhile since any book has made me miss Bruce, and this issue definitely did that.

Best issue of the arc. It finally felt like the story was moving forward. Plus the last two pages caught my interest.

Posted by Mustbedamned on 10/15/09 at 02:26 AM

@Mustbedamned: I agree.  I was surprised by this issue.

I have really enjoyed this arc. Not super pumped about Daniel, I liked Battle for the Cowl enough but it felt all over the place, unfocused. Winick has started several story threads in this arc and I'm not sure Daniel can handle them all as a writer.

What the hell? A good issue of Batman & Red Robin in the same week?? Whoa. This was good except for one part -- Two-Face buying that Dick was really Batman. Bruce & Dick would have totally different body types, voices, fighting styles etc etc etc & maybe it would fool some people, but how many times over the years would Two-Face have faced (pun) both Bruce AND Dick? Of course the easy answers are "Two-Face is crazy" or "it's a comic book" ... but it just was way too much to swallow.

Posted by WadeWilson on 10/16/09 at 03:46 AM

I hope Daniel's arc is going to be a lot better than Winick's mediocre arc.

Posted by ProjectX2 on 10/16/09 at 06:22 AM

@WadeWilson The way I read that scene was that Two Face didn't believe Dick was anything more than a sidekick in the suit.  Didn't believe he could be anything more than that.  With Alfreds assist, Dick was able to wriggle free, disappear and be as menacing as Two-Face expects Bruce to be. It's a leap of faith to believe Dent bought it, but it kinda worked for me.

After all the bluster, I picked this up and was pleasantly surprised.I gave this a 4/5. It was probably the best of the run. Bagley's art looked a little better here. Or at least, it looked a little less USM. Not exactly jazzed for Daniel, and this is going to be put up on the chopping block again next month.

Posted by PraxJarvin on 10/17/09 at 02:18 AM

I like that that costume wasn't real.
