Geez did Nightwing and Flamebird succumb to 'The Dip'?

Posted by TheNextChampion on 04/14/09 at 12:01 AM

Man, Nightwing and Flamebird are gonna be pissed when they see that Ursa burned their costumes. :)

Did Kirkman write this solicit?

Posted by WadeWilson on 04/14/09 at 02:55 AM

Best solicitation ever!

And yeah, I'm excited for the book.

DUDE.......Eddy Barrows is the SHIT!!!!! Was never really a huge Superman fan, but after reading Supergirl, last issue of Aciton & NWoK.................Im now hooked. Did i mention Eddy Barrows is the SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is another one of those comics that's going to have a different cover than the one pictured here.

Still not totally sure why they decided to ditch these costumes in favour of something that looks more like flying robots.

Posted by kthx on 04/14/09 at 01:45 PM

@kthx - They're trying to disguise themselves as humans with jet packs and not Kryptonians with natural flight ability.

I love the hell out of this book.

This is way better then what the got going on in the Superman title! I officially dropped Superman, but I'm gonna keep on reading this one!

Posted by robbydzwonar on 04/15/09 at 02:51 AM

Ok, I have a theory, and this seemed to be the best place to put it.  After reading the Brainiac story again, I noticed a line where Supergirl says something about how Clark doesn't miss Krypton the way she does.  I think this whole storyline is setting up the destruction of New Krypton at the hands of Luthor (via an unstoppable Doomsday army or something).  That'll give Superman a true feeling of loss for his homeworld for the first time post-Crisis, plus it'll make Luthor a bad@$$ again, since he hasn't really done anything since Up, Up and Away.

Fantastic issue.  POTW hands down.  Barrows is turning in some amazing work.  In just two issues this has become my favorite Superman family book.

"My disgusting, weak, mewling mutation of a son." Wow, Ursa is one bad female dog! AWESOME issue! I haven't seen much of Eddie Barrows before but he is killing on this book so far.

Posted by WadeWilson on 04/16/09 at 12:45 AM

*Eddy Barrows.

Just Googled his name & realised I have read a lot of books with his pencils. I have never noticed them looking this good before, though. Different inker or something?

Posted by WadeWilson on 04/16/09 at 12:49 AM

didn't find this issue all that impressive until I realized that this issue was basically just a long fight scene, and it still felt very satisfying. I'm not sure if I've read anything else that's been able to do that.

Posted by NealAppeal on 04/16/09 at 01:02 AM

I was really impressed with this issue. I wasn't planning to pick this one up due to the bland showing last issue. Glad I did

Posted by MastaP on 04/16/09 at 04:08 AM

So we're on the second issue of the new creative team and we get half the issue done by a fill-in artist?  I still enjoyed it, but that was lame.

Posted by TomO on 04/16/09 at 07:45 AM

@TomO I didn't even notice.

Great issue. Not amazingly stellar plot-wise, but man great pathos for Ursa. Really interested to see where this goes. I loved the last page. I'm forecasting a Lois/Ursa throw down, Murray-style.

I may have missed this in a prior series, but why does Ursa (and Zod and Non) have to wear those protective goggles?

Posted by ChristopherJohn on 04/17/09 at 08:37 AM

@ChristopherJohn - Her eyes have not adjusted back, after being in the Phantom Zone.

Posted by gnanniv on 04/17/09 at 10:15 AM

That kryptonite knife is just sick. I can't wait to see what other weapons the Kryptonians come up with to killeach other.

Posted by Parker on 04/17/09 at 12:03 PM

@gnanniv - Thank you. I had a feeling it was related the Phantom Zone but wasn't sure.

Posted by ChristopherJohn on 04/17/09 at 12:11 PM

Yeah dude, the Krypto-knife was awesome. Maybe the bloodiest Superman comic I've ever seen.

For those of you that haven't checked out ACTION yet, you'd better wake up and smell the coffee!  As a DCBS'er, I'm a little late to the party, but this issue rocked.  I really liked Chris' defining who he is to Ursa /bio-mom; the layout for action sequences were STELLAR; and the writing for the cliff-hanger really powerful.  It's still the frontrunner ve. GLC #35 (because I haven't read it yet at this point....), but Rucka is knocking ACTION outta the park!  Who knew this ACTION without Superman could be so good?  Great issue!!
