Action Comics #870

If this wraps up as nice as the Legion arc, I'm going to get the hardcover. Frank Johns is the stuff of magic. Never been better time for Superman fans.

Sad to see this arc end, but then again I can't wait for New Krypton. Good time for Superman fans indeed. 

Didn't the last issue just ship a couple of weeks ago?  Not that I am complaining.  Geoff Johns (more than ably assisted by Gary Frank) has worked his magic again and has gotten me to read a Superman book again.

I wish I jumped on this earlier. I will wait for the trade.

Every one of these Brainiac covers have been wonderful.

Damn this is a huge week for me.  It's going to kill my wallet but I can't wait.

Oh and I love the subtle hints of a very big death that is coming on this series....Wonder if anyone has picked up on what is going to happen.

So this week Gl and Action are coming out. Next week Rogues Revenge and Legion of are coming out... which am I more excited for?

FYI - CNN and other news outlets are spoiling this issue today, so you may want to avoid them.

What I thought would happen happened.  Blah.  It was a good story but still... it is sad.

 @Rofo - The cover just clued you in that it was going to be someone... it doesn't give you any clue as to who.

No, but you have to admit that with the hint of the cover, and that they went with the most obvious person, it was hardly a surprise.

Okay, what we really have here is a script for Zack Snyder (not necessarily him). This on a big screen would rake in the money and smash records. This is how I would relaunch the film franchise. People would be leaving the theatre in tears, but at the same time excited about the sequel with New Kandor.

@Templar: Agreed. But am I the only one who thought that this would happen after the first appearance of the person in the arc?

@RolandofGilead:  Interesting. A movie inspired by the comics inspires the comics that inspire a new movie. Don't you think that would be confusing for people? ;-)

@cylonpete: ha! no kiddin'. Really though, just the ol' farts, like myself, could be a bit confused seeing Pa Kent dying again on film. Its been 30 years since that first film. A new generation could experience this moment truly for the very first time. I don't know if this is true or not, but there was a report about how WB were going to up DC's involvement in the development of the films. A response to Marvel's box office success and their attempt at bringing continuity to their films. If this is really the case, right now Action Comics demands WB's attention. They would be smart to bring to life on film this villain is this and show him bottling up cities. It would be visually stunning.

A side note. I think Gary Frank has become my favorite Superman artist ever.

i thought this was the weakest arc by johns yet... with the Legion arc as the strongest

I enjoyed this arc. I'm still a little unclear on Braniac though. Is he still a Coluan or was Vril Dox I another of his proxies (ala Milton Fine)? Not that it's terribly important, though I have heard there might be a L.E.G.I.O.N. revival, so I'm curious for that lineage.

@RolandofGilead: You are of course right. Brainiac ina new movie would be awesome. And yeah, a new "mainstream" generation could experience it for the first time. I'm 20 and know the original movies by heart. While I didin't see them in the theatre, the advent of DVD/TV-reruns helped me out there. And yes, it's not the same and I really want to see a truly great Superman-film on the big screen. 

And I'd challenge the Gary Frank note with a quick reminder of one Quiet Frankly, I mean Frank Quietly....

Completely Awesome. I loved the scene where Supergirl said she was scared and Superman just gives her asmile and tells her it's okay to be scared. It may be cheesy, but it made me smile. I was reading the last couple of pages and i started tearing up. Can't wait for the New Krypton arc.

Is this a glitch, or do 3 outta 4 people in the iFanbase think exactly the same? That's scary if that's the case. Or maybe the issue was just THAT good ...
