Ignition City #1 (OF 5)
Where did the space heroes go to die? A major new series by Warren Ellis, the writer who reinvented science fiction in comics, in the alternate-world style of the award-winning Ministry Of Space and Aetheric Mechanics - a retro-punk 'future of the past' where spaceships still belched smoke and arguments were still settled with laser pistols. 1956. Personal space flight is becoming illegal all over the world. Grounded space pilot Mary Raven has to journey to Earth's last spaceport, the island of Ignition City, to recover her dead father's effects - and discovers, there in the lawless interzone of the ramshackle settlement raised inside the ring of launch pads, that her father died on the wrong end of a ray-gun. She's not going to leave until she finds out who killed Rock Raven, but there's a lot of people who'd rather feed her to the recycling chipper first! Ignition City is an on-going color epic told in five issue series featuring the art of Aetheric Mechanics' Gianluca Pagliarani and launching with a Regular and Wraparound cover by Pagliarani, a painted cover by Felipe Massafera, and a rare Design Sketch cover by Pagliarani!

Posted by uberlush on 04/06/09 at 07:07 PM"Future of the past" = I can't say no
Posted by AtomEve on 04/06/09 at 09:50 PMI think I don't consider of buying this comic book due to the facts I don't know any of this characters.
Posted by evil09 on 04/06/09 at 10:50 PM@evil09. that makes no sense, grammatically and logically.
see, the thing with a new story is that the characters are introduced to the audience as it is read, there’s isn’t a magically way a new story can be written with the audience already familiar with the characters.
That’s storytelling in narnia

Only Warren Ellis could pull something like this off. I'll try this out.
Posted by balsalm on 04/07/09 at 12:05 AMWow, evil09 reminded me of Charlie from It's always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Posted by Spooky on 04/07/09 at 01:33 AMHA HA HA!
Posted by ActualButt on 04/07/09 at 12:27 PMVery tempting. I'm very much hooked on No Hero, and think this could be more gas for the Warren Ellis fire!
Posted by Simmons on 04/07/09 at 02:06 PMThis looks pretty interesting im gonna check it out. I doubt its gonna end up disappointing.
Posted by CronyC on 04/07/09 at 05:48 PM@evil09 - wow are you serious? do you really not buy comics unless you know the characters? do you skip everything creator-owned? wow...

evil09 is just a troll
Posted by miyamotofreak on 04/08/09 at 10:32 PMExtra pages?
Posted by JumpingJupiter on 04/10/09 at 03:47 PMNope, 22 page story with 10 pages of Avatar Press order forms in the back. Book quality is really nice, though, if that makes any difference.
Posted by Rustyautoparts on 04/10/09 at 05:27 PMBoycotted!
Posted by JumpingJupiter on 04/11/09 at 08:41 AMUnderstandable, although I suggest picking it up in trade once it's all said and done.
Posted by Rustyautoparts on 04/11/09 at 10:12 AMI haven't REALLY enjoyed any of Mr. Ellis' Stuff through Avatar simply because I cannot get past the house art style. That being said, I'm going to give this a shot.
Posted by jamesschneider on 04/11/09 at 02:37 PM@Rusty: I'm not much of a trade guy. But maybe...
Posted by JumpingJupiter on 04/12/09 at 08:29 AMI don't mind $3.99 when it's smaller press.
Posted by deadspace on 04/12/09 at 08:57 AMI just really enjoyed it a lot. It's the only thing by Ellis I have read besides the first trade of Transmet. It may not be your cup of tea, but flip through it when it comes out in trade to see. I personally side more with Deadspace when it comes to higher prices, but I totally understand your stance.
@james: I'm not really sure what Avatar's house style is like, but I thought this looked beautiful.
Posted by Rustyautoparts on 04/12/09 at 10:22 AMoh check out more of Ellis' stuff! freakangels is free online. i strongly recommend Doktor Sleepless too.
