Atomic Robo Dogs Of War #1 (OF 5)

I'm torn on this one because I have the first series in trade so the collector in me wants to wait for this one in trade as well. But on the other hand I really want to read this. This wouldn't be so hard if publishers would stop adding extra stuff to the trades and put it in the actual issues. I really think those of us buying us in issues should be getting the extras, not those waiting for the trades.
Posted by comicdork37 on 08/12/08 at 12:34 AMIt's a shame this isn't getting more pulls. The first series was a lot of fun, with good art and a nice Hellboy-but-lighter feel. And this one is supposed to be a little more focused and a bit less joke-y and I bet they'll pull it off quite well.
And: it's certainly the type of small press book that needs the support of being bought in the singles rather than the trades.
Posted by iGotKittyPryde on 08/12/08 at 05:57 PM@iGotKittyPryde: Thanks for the guilt-trip on buying the singles over the trade:). I decided that you are right about this and that I just can't wait (being impatient and a comic book reader is never a good combo) to read this in trade. Plus I looked through my trade of the first series a little closer and realized that the only bonus stuff was a few sketches which I don't care much about. I'm just gonna be pissed if they put a bonus story in the eventual trade (hopefully it will be the free comic book day one - which I already have - if anything). Looking forward to reading this and I hope it is a little more serious than the first series.
Posted by comicdork37 on 08/12/08 at 11:12 PMI briefly met the creative team at Comic Con. I thumbed through the first trade and was instantly sold at the site of shelf of brains floating in jars, awaiting to be placed into Robot bodies.
Great book that deservs some recognition. It has the quirkiness of Hellboy, but more fully ebraces the fun side of pulpy adventure.
Posted by DoctorColossus on 08/13/08 at 04:27 AMgood stuff, I enjoyed the first arc even if it is a Hellboy "homage"...
Posted by AlexG on 08/13/08 at 09:36 PMI was at first kind of put off by the initial similarty in personalities of Atomic Robo to Hellboy. But by the end of the first volume, I was able to really see a distinctly different character in Robo. He has a treats the fantastic with a mundane complacency similar to Hellboy. But he seems to have more of a dry wit and confident intelligence.

I'm so stoked about this. The first series was so much fun. Good writing, good art, an all around good time. I highly recommend this book, if anyone was sitting on the fence.
