Acme Novelty Library Hc #19
Comments
@Dave: Well what is this about? I mean if it's #19 of a HC series, I'm intrigued on what this is all about.
Posted by TheNextChampion on 10/28/08 at 01:01 AM@TheNextChampion: its Chris Ware's comic. he pretty much does anything he wants in it, mostly experimental stuff like in one issue there was a finger puppet punch out theater. every couple of years they get collected into graphic novels the most famous being "Jimmy Corrigan, the smartest kid on earth"
Posted by WinTheWonderboy on 10/28/08 at 01:56 AMi don't intend on picking this up because it appears to be part 3 of a story in progress... seems hard to find the previous books... but i definitely want to pick it up when it is collected...
i read Jimmy Corrigan a while back and loved it... i just finished the Quimby the Mouse collection and am half way thru that big red Acme Novelty Library collection...

Posted by PaulSharkey on 10/28/08 at 03:18 PMAcme Novelty isn't about a story arc or even the sequential actions that are happening in the narritive. It is a starkly emotional examination of being human which is in turn dry, hillarious, depressing and often devestating.
This is the series that brought me back to comics after I had given up in the early 90's. If Alan Moore proved that comics can be literature then Chrtis Ware proved that comics can be art that tells a story. It just always peeves me that folks in the comics community at large could give a crap about the guy.
Posted by Davetron3k on 10/29/08 at 01:03 AMwhen i first saw Acme novelty i didn't pick it up. the art was entertaining but the book huge and it wouldn't fit on my shelves. it wasn't untill i saw his sketch book i knew this guy shouldn't have been judged by the size of his book.
Chris ware is impressive. his art in acme is simple but not in a bad way. the story and the amount of thought he puts into page layout is genius. can't wait to read this.

Really? Only five of us read Acme Novelty? Really? That's just sad.
